Description

The need to realize the project originates, above all, from the necessity to limit negative effects of climate changes and issues occurring in the area of support, related to, i.e.: occurrence of urban island of heat effects, air pollution, lack of solutions in the scope of use of rainwater and low ecological awareness of the society. Compliance of the project with Low Emission Economy Plan for Wyszków Commune, Local Revitalization Programme for the Wyszków Commune for the years 2018-2023.

 

In the frames of the project comprehensive actions will be implemented to enable easing of climate changes and adjusting to them, among others: introducing small water retention and green elements in built-in areas, including so far not used solutions (green walls), modernizing street light systems and promoting bike riding as an alternative to cars. Furthermore, multi-faceted campaign to increase ecological awareness of the commune inhabitants was planned.

Project target group includes all inhabitants of Wyszków commune who will gain calculable benefits from project realization (improvement of living conditions and general state of natural environment).

 

The project is implemented in partnership with the Warsaw University of Life Sciences WULS – SGGW and the Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research (NIBIO). Added value: exchange of experience and know-how between institutions in the field of solutions and good practices concerning mitigation and adaptation to climate change, presentation of concrete ideas and proposals that could be used by the Commune of Wyszków in the future in order to effectively adapt to the ongoing process of climate change, to obtain advice on the development of the Climate Change Adaptation Plan as well as to establi

Summary of project results

The need to implement the project resulted primarily from the need to reduce the negative effects of climate change and problems occurring in the support area related to, among others, the urban heat island effect, air pollution, lack of solutions for the use of rainwater and low ecological awareness of the community. The problems identified were: low environmental awareness. society, - low air quality (pollution: PM10, PM 2.5 and B(a)p in PM10 in 2018), - high level of CO2 emissions, - insufficient amount of developed green areas, - lack of solutions for storing rainwater.

The main project’s target was increase immunity Wyszkow commune for climate change and adaptation to them by implementing comprehensive adaptation and mitigation measures and conducting a campaign to raise the ecological awareness of the commune''s community in this respect. The project in question was implemented in partnership with an entity from the Donor State - Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research (NIBIO) and with an entity from Poland - the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW). Mitigation and adaptation activities were carried out as part of the project. The project also assumed conducting a multi-faceted educational campaign consisting of a number of activating actions to expand society''s knowledge and awareness of climate change. These activities were carried out through, among others: campaigns in traditional media and the Internet, activities activating the community and through education and transfer of knowledge in the form of profiled education. The educational component was commensurate with the scope and subject matter of green-blue infrastructure activities. Moreover, the project included specialized training for project experts. It should also be mentioned that the task related to the modernization of lighting in the city Wyszkow was comprehensive solution allowing for increasing energy efficiency.

The direct target group of the project were the inhabitants of the Wyszkow commune. The indirect target group of the project is also the Applicant, through the implementation of actions enabling mitigation and adaptation to climate change, as well as increasing community awareness in this respect.

Summary of bilateral results

The project in question was conducted in partnership with an entity from the Donor States i.e. - Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research (NIBIO), and also in partnership with an entity from Poland - the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW). The cooperation was based on exchange experience, direct use of partner’s knowledge in terms of caring for the local environment. Together, scientific debates and educational meetings with young people were carried out, as well as the exchange of good practices and other projects
