Summary of project results
In Poland, there is gender inequality in the area of care and upbringing of children, which is reinforced by cultural patterns and institutional mechanisms. The main goal of our project was to promote the involvement of fathers in raising and caring for a child from birth, to increase the awareness of parents, professionals and the public about the importance of a safe bond with both parents for a child''s development, the benefits of sharing care and upbringing responsibilities and education on non-violent upbringing. The educational activities carried out in the project were intended to present the importance of building a father-child relationship, and sharing care as a parental competence that gives the opportunity to get to know the child better, helps in becoming a more attentive parent, provides the child with greater emotional security at subsequent stages of life and builds his/her competences. social. Sharing child care is also a factor that protects against the development of perinatal depression, minimizes the possibility of violent relationships, including the use of physical punishment, and may also contribute to the prevention of conflicts in the family. The recipients of the project were professionals who have contact with families with small children and work outside Warsaw, as well as parents planning parenthood, expecting a child and parents of children 0-6 years old, as well as parents undergoing a separation from outside Warsaw.
With professionals in mind, we organized: The first edition of "Study for professionals working with fathers", consisting of 5 meetings, during which participants learned specific tools, programs and scenarios for working with fathers. Seminar entitled "About fathers and for fathers, or what challenges face a modern father and how to support him?", where we presented the latest research on fathers'' involvement in raising children, shared our experiences of working with fathers, touched on the importance of a father in a child''s life and the difficulties that modern fathers face. A debate on fatherhood entitled "(Not)difficult fatherhood. Debate about different shades of fatherhood and support from a professional in overcoming difficulties", during which our guests talked about their experiences in working with families, supporting fathers, and the importance of cooperation with both parents. Scenarios for conducting educational meetings - 5 scenarios for professionals to conduct meetings with parents in kindergartens, nurseries, community centers and other places where parents of small children appear. Panel "Active Citizens against domestic violence" during the Conference "Caution, child! "Prevention of abuse of young children", including 3 sessions: Parentification in the context of small children, The importance of the father''s role in the first years of a child''s life based on the bond theory, and The role of the father in the child''s life after the parents'' separation, from a legal and psychological perspective. The project''s activities also benefited parents, to whom educational activities on good parenting were addressed - i.e. articles on the website dziennik.fdds.pl, a social media campaign, 4 podcasts about parenting, a leaflet entitled "Your Child''s Appeal", the "Father-Child Bond" brochure and 2 support groups. We organized activities to improve employees'' qualifications - training in assertiveness, feedback, non-violent communication and a trainer''s school.
