Description

The aim of the project is to support the Georgian minority in the field of human rights through individual consultations and work with institutions whose activities affect Georgian citizens. Georgians are the third largest group of migrants in Lower Silesia, after Ukrainians and Belarusians. According to estimates by the Honorary Consulate of Georgia in Wrocław, the size of this group is over 15,000 people. It is also necessary to support people from Georgia who came to Poland in connection with the war in Ukraine, and who are not entitled to refugee status because they do not have Ukrainian citizenship. These people need support in particular in accessing information about their rights. As part of the project, we provide consultations in Georgian. During the consultations, these people can obtain basic information about the functioning of institutions in Poland, what the tasks of individual offices are in contact with migrants from Georgia, where to deal with a given matter and to whom to apply for help. Legal support includes basic advice on labour law. We also provide information on intervention points, psychological support and help for families. In this project we are also creating a network of institutions and organisations working for Georgian migrants. The people engaged in the network''s activities will support the functioning of the residents of Lower Silesia of Georgian origin. Together with these individuals and institutions, we will organise training courses on, among other things, intercultural differences and migrants'' rights. We are also planning to set up an association of Georgian citizens residing in Wrocław. The main beneficiaries of the project are Georgian citizens living in Lower Silesia and the City of Wrocław. We are also targeting project activities at people from various institutions who come into contact with migrants from this country.

Summary of project results

The main goal of the project was to support the Georgian minority in the field of human rights, through individual consultations and work with institutions whose activities concern Georgian citizens.
It is also important to support Georgians who came to Poland due to the war in Ukraine and who are not entitled to refugee status because they do not have Ukrainian citizenship. They require support in accessing information. Some people decide to leave Poland, but most of them do not know what their rights are.

As part of the project implementation, the Foundation placed main emphasis on activities related to running a consultation point for migrants from
Georgia. This was supported by conversations and consultations with partners - organizations implementing similar activities for migrants from
Ukraine - their experience gained both before the war in Ukraine (after February 24, 2022) and during the migration crisis was a model for us. The consultation point operated under permanent duty:
a) Georgian-speaking consultant - usually twice a week for 4 hours (Tuesdays and Thursdays)
b) lawyer - expert on migrants - once every 2 weeks, concurrently with the Consultant''s duty (Thursdays).
During the on-call period, 72 people took advantage of the advice - these people went through the entire consultation procedure and completed the consultation form providing their
personal data. Other people also contacted the consultation point with problems that went beyond the area
competences of people conducting consultations. Thanks to cooperation with the District Chamber of Legal Advisors in Wrocław and the Development Agency
In the Wrocław Agglomeration they received support elsewhere. They were also sent to the Consulate General of Georgia in Warsaw and to
Lower Silesian Voivodeship Office in Wrocław.
The second action that was implemented was the creation of a network of organizations working for migrants (including migrants from Georgia). Due to the partners'' involvement in working with Ukrainian migrants (implemented programs financed by national and international funds,
greater demand for support for migrants from Ukraine than for other national groups) the meetings were of a working nature and were mostly bilateral. The most important effect is the creation of an organization grouping migrants from Georgia in Lower Silesia - representatives
Foundation and a lawyer participated in the process of establishing the Sakartwelo Association.

72 cases of Georgians were handled as part of the consultations.
Partnerships have been established with other organizations now working on behalf of migrants from Georgia.
An association representing migrants from Georgia - Sakartvelo - was established.
The information brochure for Georgian migrants is in the final stage of preparation.
All the most important offices operating in Wrocław were involved in the project activities: City Hall, Marshal''s Office, Provincial Office.
