Description
Many years of experience, ours and that of our partners, revealed the insufficient civic and social participation of young people, the low level of environmental education and young people’s lack of awareness of the consequences of wasting resources (including wasting food). This project is a response to these problems. Our main goal is to increase youth’s civic and social participation and engage the residents in local policies concerning ecology and the idea of zero waste and less waste in the Greater Poland Province. As part of the project, we set up 20 School Eco-Leader Clubs and carry out comprehensive educational activities and volunteer actions, involving various groups of beneficiaries: school students, teachers, local government officials and the local community. We hold trainings, workshops, webinars, 2 conferences, 3 citizens'' panels and 1 local government panel for 300 school students, 20 teachers, 40 people from local government, 40 people representing youth councils, neighbourhood councils and village councils, and 60 residents. We carry out 80 voluntary youth actions. These include zero waste campaigns in schools, zero waste marketplaces, Oxford debates and school participatory budgeting. We are developing a ''Masterplan for zero waste'', a document that initiates a new local policy on zero waste implementation. The project is being implemented in 20 locations in the Greater Poland Province. It will result in a real change in local communities, i.e. an increase in subjectivity, knowledge and skills in the area of public participation, as well as waste minimisation and implementation of the zero waste idea. In total, we will involve more than 2,000 people in the project. Our partners are: Association Metropolia Poznań, Association Ecologists Without Borders (EBM Slovenia) and Norsensus Mediaforum (Norway).
Summary of project results
The main goal of the project was to increase the civic and social participation of young people and increase their involvement in local policies. ecology and ZERO WASTE / LESS WASTE in local governments in Greater Poland through the creation of 20 School Eco-Leaders Clubs and comprehensive educational activities. The project was based on many years of experience of the leader - the CREO Association and the partner - the Poznań Metropolis Association, which revealed the problems of insufficient civic and social participation of young people as well as the low level of ecological education and lack of awareness of the consequences of wasting resources (e.g. food).
The main goal of the project was to increase the civic and social participation of young people and increase involvement in local policies regarding ecology and ZERO WASTE / LESS WASTE (ZW/LW) in local governments in Greater Poland through the creation of 20 School Eco-Leaders Clubs and comprehensive educational activities. The final recipients of the project were 588 people, including: 451 students, 22 teachers, 45 representatives of local government units, 10 representatives of auxiliary bodies of local government units and 60 residents. A total of 5,756 students voted in 20 organized School Budgets. We carried out 80 youth volunteer campaigns, i.e. school ZERO WASTE campaigns, ZERO WASTE fairs, Oxford school debates and School Budgets of the Union. We implemented the project in 20 locations in Greater Poland to bring about real change in local communities (increased subjectivity, knowledge and skills in the field of participation and waste minimization and ZW/LW). A MASTERPLAN FOR ZERO WASTE was created, i.e. a document initiating a new local policy regarding ZW/LW. We used solutions that were innovative on a national scale: the School School Budget, the Local School Map tool, metropolitan citizen panels, and active exchange of experiences between Norway-Slovenia-Poland. In total, we involved 5,893 people in the project. The partnership project was attended by: the CREO Association, the Poznań Metropolis Association, the Ecologists Without Borders Association (EBM Slovenia), Norsensus Mediaforum (Norway).
The main goal of the project was to increase the civic and social participation of young people and increase their knowledge about the zero waste idea and involvement in public affairs in 20 schools in Greater Poland through the creation of School Eco-Leader Clubs, comprehensive educational activities for students, teachers and employees. /local government employees. As planned, young people from each Club took part in a series of workshops (100 in total) and then organized social and civic actions (80 in total). It is worth adding that the activities were of a school-wide nature, so they were not related only to the group of members of the School Eco-Leaders Clubs, but to the entire school community. Thanks to this, everyone had the opportunity to take part in civic initiatives (such as the Zero Waste School Budget) but also to expand their knowledge about the Zero Waste idea (thanks to fairs and school social campaigns). The activities were summarized during 2 conferences. All project assumptions regarding the number of recipients of individual activities were achieved. In particular, we are pleased that as many as 451 students took active part in the project and participated in workshops and project activities, thus having the opportunity to gain both theoretical and practical knowledge in social, civic, volunteering and ecological issues. Very important in the context of implementation. The project also included the participation of as many as 5,756 students in voting under Zero Waste School Budgets. This is a very important issue in the context of shaping correct civic patterns.
Summary of bilateral results
During the project, 3 study visits were carried out. (Study visits - Slovenia, Norway, Poland) The first visit took place in Slovenia. The trip was organized on 02-06.10.2023 in cooperation with the Slovenian partner - EBM for representatives of CREO and SMP in order to learn about good practices and exchange experiences. The second study visit took place on 8-11 April 2024. We hosted representatives of partners from Norway and Slovenia in Poland. The following came to Poznań: Vedat Sevincer from the Norwegian Norsensus Mediaforum and Jaka Kranjc from the Slovenian Ekologi brez meja Association. During these few days, we not only showed our guests Poznań and its surroundings, indicated good practices in our region, but also held a number of meetings. The culmination of the visit was the participation of the partners in the conference summarizing the project, which took place in Poznań on 9 April. The last visit took place in Norway. The trip was carried out on April 22-25, 2024 in cooperation with the Norwegian partner - Norsensus Mediaforum for representatives of CREO (Jacek Kowalski) and the Poznań Metropolis Association (Dawid Drobnić) in order to learn about good practices and exchange experiences. Each visit allowed for the exchange of various experiences, learning about good practices and strengthening international ties, which has already resulted in further cooperation. The partners also created publications assumed in the project, which have been translated and are available in 2 language versions: English and Polish: 1) PUBLICATION: The use of media in civic education of youth - good practices (author: Norsensus). A guide for teachers and youth. The publication enables the use in Poland of unique experiences from Norway (e.g. from educational campaigns in schools). (2) PUBLICATION: WE INCLUDE ZERO WASTE and LESS WASTE in everyday life - A guide for young people (author: EBM).
