Description

The aim of the project is to integrate and counteract discrimination against refugees, especially those coming from Afghanistan. The project has an intervention character and addresses the needs of: shortage of qualified social workers in centres for foreigners, increase in demand for housing for refugees and integration of newcomers into the local community. In August 2021, Poland evacuated 1024 people from Kabul. Moreover, according to the Border Guard statistics, in the first half of 2022, 4006 persons crossed the border illegally and were placed in guarded centres for foreigners (in the same period of the previous year, there were 1453 persons). These data illustrate a definite increase in the number of people seeking asylum in Poland. Only a part of people who came to Poland from Afghanistan speak English. Most speak only local languages, e.g. Dari, Pashto, or Farsi. So far, we have worked mainly with Russian-speaking people without the help of an interpreter, so we did not need translation in our projects. Now it is necessary. As part of the project we want to hire a ‘caseworker’ - a person who will work with families and support children and young people in their adaptation to school. We will carry out 8 meetings on this topic for local leaders or people working in the local community. We will make sure to make the meetings as inclusive as possible for different local actors. Direct beneficiaries of the project are refugees, i.e. persons undergoing the procedure for granting international protection and persons with refugee status or with another form of protection, living in the Mazovian Province, also in the centres for foreigners in Linin and Dębak. Indirect recipients will be local leaders or people working with the local community, including pedagogical staff, councillors, officials and social workers.

Summary of project results
