Description
The aim of the project is to support people in the crisis of homelessness and their integration with the residents of the City of Wrocław. We would like to change the negative image of people experiencing homelessness as well as to fight stereotypes and prejudices associated with homelessness itself. The project involves active participation and joint activities of both the group of people in the homelessness crisis and other social groups in Wrocław, thanks to which there will be a chance to introduce real social change in the city. As part of the project we will conduct craft and artistic workshops as well as integration meetings in the interdisciplinary space ‘MiserArt – the creative zone in the maze of exclusion’, located in the complex of outbuildings in Wrocław. During workshops held under the slogan of ‘The Outhouse of Inspirations’, people in the crisis of homelessness will learn to use upcycling to create objects that will later be used to arrange a space for social integration. They will acquire both ‘hard’ skills (e.g. using carpentry tools) and ‘soft’ skills (e.g. creative thinking). An important element of the project are the workshops-meetings carried out under the slogan of ‘Please, sit in’, whose aim is to integrate people in the crisis of homelessness with the youth and the local community of the Nadodrze district of Wrocław.
Summary of project results
The project aimed to support people in the homeless crisis and their integration with the residents of the city of Wrocław (with particular emphasis on people aged 15-29). The project contributed to social change by transforming the negative image of people in the homeless crisis, weakening the functioning of stereotypes and prejudices in the understanding of homelessness. The project was based on the active and participatory participation of people in the homeless crisis, in such a way that they became not only beneficiaries, but also its co-creators.
The starting point was the organization of a series of workshops "inspiration office" - craft and creative activities, the result of which was teaching participants (people in the homeless crisis) how to create objects from upcycled materials that will later be used to arrange social integration spaces. During the series of workshops, beneficiaries gained both hard skills related to the carpentry profession (e.g. knowledge of using carpentry tools) and soft skills (e.g. creative thinking). The most important element of the project was the organization of workshops-meetings - "Sit Down" - a kind of platform enabling the integration of people in the homeless crisis with the youth of Wrocław and the local community of the Wrocław district - Nadodrze.
The project contributed to the social and professional reintegration of excluded people and breaking stereotypes related to homelessness, improving the competences of employees, establishing cooperation and acquiring new knowledge.
Total number of people involved in the activities: 175 - most of them young adults (98 people) and adults (67 people).
Number of all people who used new or improved forms of support within the project (primarily people in the homeless crisis): 40.
Number of trained employees, volunteers and volunteers of social organizations: 5.
