Description

The project includes a series of educational and cultural activities aimed at integrating foreigners living in Poland, particularly in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Province, into the local community. Our goal is to show that multiculturalism is a value for society and acceptance of diversity should start at the local level. We want to raise Polish people’s awareness of the challenges foreigners face, and develop empathy towards their needs. We will activate people of different ages, backgrounds, cultures and worldviews, encourage them to talk together and build a culture of dialogue. The project addresses the needs of foreigners in Poland, but also the barriers experienced by Poles, such as fear of the unknown, stereotypes, and prejudice. We want to strengthen social inclusion, counteract exclusion, and promote models of effective cooperation for diversity at the regional level. We will carry out cultural and educational activities (such as theatre, music, dance, radio, culinary events, etc.) for all interested parties. We are implementing the project in cooperation with four partners: the Artus Court Cultural Centre, the Emic Foundation, the WSB University in Toruń, and the Centre for International Cooperation from Belarus.

Summary of project results

Multicultural Neighbors is a series of activities involving foreigners mainly staying in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship in building the local environment and strengthening social integration, among others. by carrying out activities related to culture and art, as well as intercultural education. The project also activated Poles, increasing the level of awareness and empathy of citizens regarding the needs and problems of foreigners. We activated people of different ages, origins, cultures and worldviews and encouraged them to talk together and build a culture of dialogue.

The project strengthened social integration, reduced the level of exclusion through high-quality educational and cultural activities, and promoted models of effective cooperation for diversity at the regional level.

Our initiative responded to the problems of foreigners - lack of space for social integration, building self-esteem, as well as Poles - resorting to stereotypes and prejudices, fear of the unknown and lack of tolerance and acceptance.
The aim of the project was to show that multiculturalism is an asset of our society, and acceptance of diversity should start at the local level.
