The outcome of this project is prototype for a new product “RaceTribe” (RT) - a comprehensive e-tool to support sports competition organizers and participants. RT is a new product not only at the enterprise, but also global market level.
Technologically, RT is based on a new algorithm neccessary to successfuly apply BLE to sports competitions and offering this new technology to users in a user-friendly, meaningfull and comprehensive way as an e-platform with applications. It is the new algorithm that makes RaceTribe unique.
As a product, RT consists of a virtual beacon application with BLE “RaceTribe IDent” or participants’ application and “RaceTribe” manager consisting of a time recording application with BLE for judge and an e-platform with all the other functionality relevant to the competition All the data are stored on autonomous data server or “cloud” while all the calculations are done on a server.
Summary of project results
The two main challenges the project set out to address were a) develop a financially significantly cheaper and physically significantly lighter alternative to current timing solutions used in fixed distance sports competitions; b) develop a significantly user-friendlier e-platform to set up sports competitions, calculate and display their results.
A new timing alternative, “Race Tribe timing,” and a new e-platform test. race tribe.app, known as “Race Tribe,” were developed, and both met the above-described challenges. This involved full-time in-house IT programming, consultations with a scientific institution, “The Institute of Electronics and Computer Science,” as well as outsourced design and information and communication services. These were integrative parts of the process and important for the project results.
The project''s two main results are prototypes of a new-generation timing solution and e-platform. Once made into a product, they are believed to change the sports timing market by offering a much more affordable, effective, and easy-to-use alternative. The product is expected to lead to an energy reduction of around 2800 kWh/ year and a CO2 reduction of around 0.2 tons/ year.
In the long term, “Race Tribe” is expected to support more sports events and thus, a more healthy population. The new product contributed to significant changes for the end beneficiaries and also new innovative methods have been used within the project.
