Description
The main aim of the project is to improve the services for children in the health offices of pre-school and school education institutions of Šakiai, Vilkaviškis and Kazlų Rūda. One of the necessary conditions for the Lithuanian economy to become progressive, sustainable, inclusive, and to promote economic growth is the good health of the population. The implementation of the project will significantly contribute to the achievement of one of the national strategic goals of health care - to take care of the preservation and improvement of the health of children and youth, especially mental health. The developed infrastructure will allow to develop healthy lifestyle attitudes of preschoolers, to create a healthy and safe environment, to reduce environmental and impact of social factors on human health in these districts and rural areas of Lithuania, resulting in savings of economic resources in the project area (reduction of costs for treatment, medicines and health services, disposal of medical waste, reduction of poverty and increase of economic power) alcohol and smoking, drug use among young people will reduce crime, increase the sense of security in communities, etc.).
The implementation of the project will contribute to the reduction of economic and social disparities, especially in the field of health, as the objectives of this project are to improve health care infrastructure in educational institutions: repair of health offices, purchase of methodological measures, acquisition of healthy lifestyle skills development tools, information/communication/technology tools, required for the prevention and strengthening of mental health in schools/preschool education institutions.
Summary of project results
One of the necessary conditions for the Lithuanian economy to become progressive, sustainable, inclusive and to promote economic growth is the good health of the population. Much attention is paid to the prevention of the health of children and young people. Around one in ten children have mental health problems. The main aim of the project was to improve services (especially related to mental health) for children in the health offices of pre-school and school education institutions of Šakiai, Vilkaviškis and Kazlų Rūda municipalities. In order to achieve this goal, it was necessary to improve services provided to the service recipients, to train specialists who are able to recognize and solve cases of children and youth experiencing bullying and/or psychosocial problems, to increase the number of health offices of pre-school and school education institutions, where improved services for children will be provided.
During the implementation of the project, the health offices of 28 educational institutions in Šakiai, Vilkaviškis and Kazlų Rūda municipalities were renovated, 39 health offices of educational institutions were equipped with methodological tools and equipment. A total of 1,273 methodological tools and equipment items were purchased during the project, of which 733 are aimed at improving mental health of children and youth. During the project 21 local specialists were trained to provide services with the purchased tools and provided these services to children and young people.
During the implementation of the project 4,882 children and young people received improved services and used the purchased tools and equipment. Services for children were improved in the health offices of 39 pre-school and school education institutions. More than 80 percent of the health offices specialists trained during the project confirmed enhanced abilities to recognize and treat cases of bullying and/or psychosocial problems among children and youth. Developed and equipped infrastructure, as well as trained specialists, allows to develop healthy lifestyle attitudes of children, to create a healthy and safe environment, to reduce economic and social disparities, especially in the field of health, in Šakiai, Vilkaviškis and Kazlų Rūda municipalities resulting in savings of economic resources in the project area.
