Description
The idea of youth–friendly healthcare services, which fundamentally changes the approach to teenagers’ health care priorities, is very important measure for increasing the access to health services and the acceptability of young people. In the district of Jonava during the project it is planned to develop the Coordination Centre of youth-friendly healthcare services that would satisfy the needs of the municipality and would ensure the privacy of the consultations (at least part time of consultation teenager could spend alone with a specialist) and could offer convenient reception hours to young people (the opportunity to consult in the afternoon, in the evenings and on weekends). Thanks to the learning and inter-institutional cooperation new skills of young people will be formed and their approaches will be changed by forming a positive approach to a healthier lifestyle. These measures will help to ensure opportunities of the project target group to develop a healthy lifestyle, healthy eating, diet related to disease prevention, mental health, physical activity, injury and accident prevention, addictions prevention, sexuality, hygiene skills and other medical skills. The aim of the project is to develop high-quality and accessible youth-friendly health care services that meet the needs and to encourage young people living in Jonava municipality to choose a healthier lifestyle.
Summary of project results
The aim of the project was to to develop health care services for young people that meet their needs and to encourage young people living in Jonava municipality to choose a healthier lifestyle. During the implementation of the project, it was planned to establish a coordination center for youth-friendly health care services, which will provide services in Jonava and Jonava district. It was expected that with the help of training, activities for young people and inter-institutional cooperation, new skills and attitudes towards a healthier lifestyle will be formed among young people.
During the implementation of the project in Jonava, the development of the implemented model of youth-friendly health care services was carried out and services started to be provided based on 8 algorithms.
- Counseling and case management are carried out when young people face difficulties. During the project implementation 2 youth health coordinators finished case management trainings. Specialists and coordinators of the Jonava public health office worked with the young people. After assessing the health needs of the young person, the youth coordinators provided case management services and mediated when a young person applied to the institutions of personal health care or other sectors.
- To provide personal health care services as efficiently as possible in Jonava district municipality, the "green corridor" principle was chosen.
- Great attention is paid to physical activity. Young people had the opportunity to attend classes promoting self-defense, boxing, zumba, yoga, pilates and classes in the gym.
- To encourage young people to choose a healthier lifestyle, classes on healthy nutrition, sexuality education, suicide prevention, self-expression and internal motivation were organized for young people and their relatives, as well as individual nutritionist consultations.
- Individual psychological consultations are provided.
- To raise the qualifications and competence of specialists providing services to young people, and to improve the cooperation of specialists from different sectors in solving various youth health problems, trainings were organized for specialists.
- Active cooperation was carried out between educational, social, personal health care institutions, law enforcement institutions, youth organizations, non-governmental organizations and other institutions.
Project results and continuity – more that 2000 times young people of Jonava (14-29 years old) were provided with high-quality and affordable health care services, which help to strengthen physical and mental health and develop healthy lifestyle habits. Psychologist, 2 youth health coordinators will continue providing case management services and consultations. The measures and tools purchased during the project were handed over to the porject partmer Public Health Office of the Jonava District Municipality. Jonava district municipality administration will ensure that sequence of 8 algorithmic actions to a youth health problems and health improvement issues will be continued to apply looking to find systemic, organizational, financial, legal and political solutions to the issues of youth health care services.
