Description

This project aims to implement and operate an integrated system of intelligent management of the water supply network of the Old Town of Heraklion, which through modern technologies of data collection and management, based on the Internet of Things (IoT), will detect leaks and interacts with the basic parameters of the network. Project activities include:

• the supply and installation of 5600 digital hydrometers and telemetry systems (Responsible Body: DEFAH)

• the supply and installation of a water quality and quantity monitoring system using digital flowmeters and multi-parameter instruments (Responsible Body: OAK) The data of the system will be recorded and sent to be managed by SmartLIK

• the implementation of an integrated intelligent water supply network management system (Responsible Body: PC)

• the implementation of a communication plan (Responsible Body: OAK) with communication and publicity actions for the act

Summary of project results

The project aimed to significantly reduce resource losses (water, energy, equipment and labor hours) by reducing operating costs and increasing DEYAI''s revenues, providing the opportunity for improved coverage of increased demand needs for water supply. With the implementation and operation of an integrated system of intelligent management of the water supply network of the Old City of Heraklion, which through modern collection technologies and data management, based on the Internet of Things, will detect leaks and interact with key network parameters.

The project includes:

  • the supply and installation of 5600 digital water meters and telemetry systems (Responsible Body: Municipal Water Supply and Sewerage Company of Heraklion).
  • the supply and installation of a water quality and quantity monitoring system using digital flowmeters and multiparametric instruments (Responsible Body: Crete Development Organization SA). System data will be recorded and sent to be managed by SmartLIK.
  • the implementation of an integrated intelligent water supply network management system (Responsible Body: Polytechnic of Crete).
  • the implementation of a communication plan (Responsible Body: Development Organization of Crete SA) with communication and publicity actions of the project.

The results of the project are:

Estimated amount of water saved (m3/year):  420.000

Number of water bodies with imporved environmental status: 2

Number of beneficiaries of services provided or improved:  16.000

Estimated Cost Savings (€/year)  840.000
