Description

The project will address the significant problem of under-reporting of incidents of child abuse and gender-based violence in Greece through the provision of training to social workers and mental health professionals regarding the identification, prevention and ways to deal with such phenomena, as well as raising awareness of the wider public on issues of gender-based violence and child abuse. The training will be provided in the form of educational workshops, through which employees and professionals will gain deeper knowledge and methodological tools to deal with such phenomena.

In addition, film screenings will be held, as well as digital display of images / photos of artists in central spaces of the city of Ioannina, aiming in raising awareness and empowering victims of violence.

Last but not least, a video/spot, promoting the project’s social cause, will be created in order to be presented in local media and social media. With the completion of the project, 100 workers and professionals in the field of social protection will gain deeper knowledge and methodological tools to deal with such phenomena, while 1000 citizens will have obtained awareness and been informed on issues of child abuse and gender-based violence.

Summary of project results

The project aimed to address the critical issues of child abuse and gender-based violence, which are prevalent in Greece. It sought to tackle the lack of awareness and insufficient training among social workers and mental health professionals in identifying, preventing, and responding to these issues. Additionally, the project aimed to raise public awareness in the rural city of Ioannina regarding the impact of gender-based violence and child abuse, ultimately contributing to the empowerment of victims and the broader community.

The project provided educational workshops for 125 social workers and mental health professionals, equipping them with the knowledge and tools necessary to identify, prevent, and address child abuse and gender-based violence. The project also included film screenings and the digital display of images and photos by artists in central public spaces of Ioannina, aimed at raising awareness of these issues and empowering victims. Additionally, a video/spot promoting the social cause was created and presented through local media and social media channels to further spread awareness.

The project successfully trained 125 social workers and mental health professionals, enhancing their ability to address child abuse and gender-based violence in their professional roles. It also engaged and informed 1,000 citizens in Ioannina, raising awareness and encouraging action on these critical social issues. The public campaigns, including film screenings, digital art displays, and media outreach, contributed to an overall increased sensitivity to the issues of violence and abuse in the local community, while empowering victims through education and visibility.
