Description

The project focuses on teacher training for teachers of Swedish as a general language at the university of Iceland, Iceland and Tartu University, Estonia.  The project will take place during two consecutive years (24 months).

The project will enable participants to participate training/seminar days-sessions and TNP meetings and exchange experience and develop good practices in methodology and teaching. New intellectual output will be created a) in the form of teacher training seminars and b) creating a homepage/digital learning environment to store, develop and share the materials of the trainings. This homepage/digital learning environment will then later serve as a reference material for both the current project participants, but also beyond this project. c) The TNP meetings help to share and develop good practices, as well as gauging project success and developing it.

The project will consist of 2 transnational project (TNP) meetings and 2 teacher training seminars/workshops. One meeting and one seminar/workshop will take place in Estonia, one of each on Iceland. The focus of the project meetings and seminars/workshops will be on teacher training. Modern methodologies in language learning and pedagogical tools, including e-learning will be presented, analysed and developed.

Best professional practice experience will be shared.  Visits to the respective universities included in this project will enable colleagues to learn first-hand from the good practices, developments and methodological advances at both higher-educational institutions.

The intellectual product of the project will be: a) the “live” seminars/training-days (one in Estonia, one on Iceland); b) the information, links, data loaded up and presented on the online web-course/ materials pool; c) data, information, know-how and best practices shared and developed during the training sessions, TNP meetings (one in Estonia, one on Iceland) and cooperation throughout the project.

Summary of project results

This aim of the project was to implement teacher training for teachers of Swedish as a general language at the University of Iceland and University of Tartu.

The project aimed at establishing cooperation between University of Iceland and University of Tartu with the goal of  exchanging experience concerning best practices, learning about both cooperation partner´s modus operandi in teaching, developing methodologies and approaching the learning/teaching processes at university level in a conceptual frame. The focus is on teaching Swedish at the university level in both contexts. Also the web-pool wiht the methodology, language learning theories, e-learning was created.

The project goals and output included the exchange of experience of teaching Swedish in the universities of both countries (Estonia and Iceland). The goal was to organise Intellectual Objective meeting activities: a) Transnational Meetings and Seminars, 2) web-pool or materials source (home-page) with relevant materials on methodology, teaching, e-learning, blended learning and theories of Teaching. Within this framework, project participants could also learn from good practices, experience exchange and participate in discussions on teaching. It was also a goal to visit both universities so as to see work in progress, the universities´ organisation of work, locations etc. – and through this improve work and refresh methods and approaches in one´s own home university and teaching practice. This all was achieved and the project contributed considerably to an insight into the project partner´s work and teaching arrangements.

Summary of bilateral results

Between the project partners was good cooperation and it was extremely useful to get to know the principles of work at the Icelandic university, Estonia has a lot to learn from Iceland’s experience.
