Description

Loomus is originally a political advocacy organization. Over the years, new people have joined and former active members are not involved in everyday work. Therefore, the organization has knowledge that is not currently being used to its full extent.

The purpose of the project is to bring together long-term activists and their knowledge and experience with new people and thereby enhance advocacy activities in the field of animal protection.

Essential activities are regular meetings within the organization in order to discuss advocacy strategies, involvement of volunteers, and to enhance active participation in the advocacy network. The project includes two training sessions on advocacy and a team event to share experiences.

Systematically working on advocacy provides an opportunity to create a clearer system and structure in the organization, to measure the impact of our work, and to involve new people. Therefore, the project also strengthens the management and develops transparency of Loomus as it makes more visible the field of animal advocacy.

Active participation in the advocacy network helps Loomus members to learn from others, to exchange experiences, to develop the work of the network, and to create stronger partnerships with others.

The target groups are politicians and others persons involved in legislation, as well as people interested in animal protection.

Summary of project results

The project was initiated to bring a notable advancement in animal advocacy within Loomus and the broader field of animal protection. Its goal was to enhance collaboration between organizations, strengthen the internal structure of Loomus, and create a more active and engaged team. By improving these key aspects, the project aimed to make a lasting impact on interest protection efforts, ensuring that animal rights advocacy became more effective and structured.

During the project, several activities were carried out to support these objectives. Four events were organized for team members to build cohesion and skills, and a dozen volunteers were actively engaged in advocacy efforts. Recommendations were prepared for European Parliament candidates, and two official positions were developed regarding key animal protection issues: long-distance transport of live animals and spring goose hunting. Additionally, two legal analyses were commissioned to assist with advocacy and interest protection, and the range of topics addressed by Loomus was expanded.

As a result of the project, the team gained valuable knowledge and experience in both advocacy and animal protection. While initial progress was slow, a structured workflow and rhythm developed over time, making it easier to sustain efforts beyond the project’s duration. The increased use of legal expertise also helped refine focus areas and strengthen advocacy strategies. Ultimately, the project reinforced interest protection activities, improved cooperation between organizations, and made it easier for new volunteers to contribute, fostering greater engagement in civil society.
