Description

The aim of the project is to create an adaptation strategy for the Olomouc region. The strategy will serve as an overarching document setting out a common approach for the region and will serve as an overarching document for cities, municipalities and other entities that will address the issue of climate change in their territory.

Summary of project results

The issue of climate change has so far been partially addressed in some strategic documents, such as the Development Strategy of the Territorial District of the Olomouc Region, the Territorial Energy Concept of the Olomouc Region, plans for the basins of the Morava and Odra rivers, etc. However, the Olomouc Region lacked a comprehensive approach to the issue of climate change, which became the main theme of the project.

As part of the project, we conducted a questionnaire survey, which showed that almost 90% of our respondents perceive the changing climate and consider it one of the main problems of today. Local agriculture and forests, for example, are considered by our residents to be very vulnerable. In connection with climate change, they often mention, for example, soil erosion, water shortages, crop failures or a decline in biodiversity. In terms of adaptation measures, the establishment of water bodies and water features in the landscape and in public space, the planting of greenery or the introduction of innovative technologies, whose goal is, for example, the capture of rainwater, received the greatest support.

The project and its progress had a significant impact both on cooperating unions across the entire office and across the entire Olomouc region thanks to the involvement of the general public in the creation of the strategy. The project and its progress had a significant impact both on the cooperating unions across the entire office and across the entire Olomouc region thanks to the involvement of the general public in the creation of the strategy. Since its inception, the strategy has been a source of inspiration and good practice for cities, municipalities and other entities in the Olomouc region. Based on the regional strategy, these entities can prepare documents describing their own approach to the issue, or they can directly implement some of the proposed measures.

For these needs, we created a handbook with an example of good practice in adaptation to climate change as part of the project, which represents inspiring measures for forest management, water retention in the landscape or the support of biodiversity.
