The Czech – Norwegian project called “Crossing borders” plans exchanges of 5 teachers and 12 students from the Secondary Nursing School and Tertiary Vocational school of Nursing in Liberec (Czech Republic) and 6 teachers and 10 students from Johan Bojer videregaende skole (Norway). The aim of the project is to acquaint the participating students with the partner country and widen their perspectives. The trip abroad will teach them how to discuss and reflect on differences and similarities between the two countries. Students will increase their competences within language and multicultural skills, but also soft skills, e.g. communication, problem-solving and being able to adjust to new situations. Students will debate about the meaning of being a European citizen, about prejudice and mutual respect. The participating teachers will improve their proficiency in administration and organisation. They will also widen their professional network and get insight into the school system and curricula of the partner country and its best practices.
Summary of project results
We carried out this project because we felt the need to broaden the participants'' perspective and to have the opportunity to think and discuss the differences and similarities between Norway and the Czech Republic.
We implemented two types of mobility - for teachers and for students. We all not only shadowed but also actively participated in various lessons with presentations related to either the subject itself or to our country, city, and school.
Not only the students increased their competence in language and intercultural skills and soft skills such as communication, problem solving and the ability to adapt to new situations. Participants also developed on a personal level, becoming more independent and confident through the debates they had in classes and also in extra-curricular activities. We, the teachers, have already used some of the partner''s best practices in our classes. Also, we all had the opportunity to get a deeper insight into the partner culture through afternoon field trips.
Summary of bilateral results
The main result from a bilateral level is that through the planned activities the participants learnt about the culture and the society in the other country and it resulted in mutual respect and understanding.
