Description

„The Farm Krenovka in the Prague Žižkov – new centre for contemporary art and Community“ project will change the cultural monument in an innovative way. In this object, which is a part of the Prague Connection Railways, State Railways, and Turnov-Kralupy-Prague Railways Structural Complex, will be established a centre providing new premises for contemporary art (especially for dance) and community activities.

The project will achieve the objectives through several synergistic activities:
- building completion and furnishings of the reception and the co-working room ArtHub
- Studio Krenovka and Dance Prague facilities including a Meeting Room: installation of a dance floor, furnishings and technology. This activity supports especially the activities and public programme of the project partner (Tanec Praha z.ú.)
- operation of the Krenovka cultural centre: a space for artists and the community: already in September 2022 the Centre will be open to the public and an inclusive and diverse programme will be offered
- Krenovka activates the Gordian Knot/public events reviving the brownfield: 9 site-specific events for the centre and its surroundings

About 220 events for 2.500 – 3.000 visitors will  be organised within the project.

An important aspect of the project is cooperation with the Norwegian partner, Dansens Hus Oslo, which will share its know-how with the operation of one of the best dance houses in Europe and its programme experience.

Summary of project results

The Krenovka estate is a former farm and coaching inn, which represents a historically valuable and developmentally interesting and distinctive architectural object. The object was in very poor condition due to long-term disuse. The new owner of the object decided to reconstruct the estate and turn it into a non-commercially operated multicultural center. The goal of the revitalization of the object was to give the former estate a new use and thus revive the entire location, which is unfortunately a brownfield. The project enabled completion of reconstruction of spaces for education and artistic activities and the start of operation in an urbanistically problematic part of Prague.

We completed the reconstrruction of interior spaces of the building and equipped the spaces of the Tanec Praha organisation, including a new dance hall with dressing rooms, offices and other accessories. We also created a multimedia space for education and networking  called Art Hub. Other spaces were designated to other cultural and educational entities, such as Unijazz.  The surroundings of thebuilding were revitalized by cleaning and planting of the embankment above Krenovka and the area was supplemented by an original wooden object. Duroing project implementation, we orgased 10 site-specific events inlcuding community events, Tanec Praha festival, International Dance Day; exhibitions or installation of an original wooden object.  Representatives of the Czech team organized a professional trip to Norway combined with partner''s consultations. Norwegian artist took part in cultural evenets in the Czech Republic.

Thanks to project realisation, management of Czech cultural heritage was enhanced. Project enabled innovative use of the building as a cultural and community center. The capacity of the partner, Tanece Praha, as well as other entities housed in Krenovka, was strengthened. The center is run sustainably, the jobs created will be financed from the income.  The owner of the building was proposed for an award Patrimonium pro futuro /2023 for Exemplary management and use of a monument.

Summary of bilateral results

The partner organization Dansens Hus provided consultations on the operation of the cultural center. In June 2023, 2 Norwegian artists (Ingrid Berger Myhre and Lasse Passage) performed at the Dance Prague festival: 3 performances of Panflutes and Paperwork were organized, 2 in the regions (Malovice and Pardubice), 1 in the Ponec Theater in Prague. Samme Raeymaekers (artistic director, Dansens Hus Oslo, in 2023) and Marianne Bilger, recommended by the project partner (artistic director, Kulturhus Baerum, in 2024), participated in the Czech Dance Platform festival as jury members and guests of honor. The partner''s participation enabled the exchange of experience and networking. The mutually beneficial partnership went according to plan. Consultations provided by the Noregian partner supported know-how of the final beneficiary and the project partner Tanec Praha about culture centre and dance company/studio management.
