Description

This project proposal is designed to engage the majority of the population, which identifies itself as Bulgarian, and the minority groups in the face of the Roma, in cultural projects and to improve their access to culture and arts, thus improving their situation in Bulgaria, using culture and art as a means of developing skills and as a path to education. In this regard, the SAVORE Foundation together with its partners plans to perform the following activities: 1. Educational programs and webinars; 2. Promotion of Roma cultural initiatives 3. Conducting traveling performances and final "Festival of Roma Culture", Fakulteta, Sofia.

Summary of project results

The overall aim is to engage the majority population, who identify as Bulgarian, and minority groups, the Roma minority, in cultural projects and to improve their access to culture and the arts, thereby improving their situation in Bulgaria, using culture and the arts as a tool for skills development and as a route to education.

The project goals were achieved through the organisation of events (including online activities), cultural and artistic performances, exhibitions, the creation of artistic products, as well as educational initiatives that have revitalised peripheral spaces and showcased the contribution of ethnic and cultural minorities to the cultural life of smaller communities, how they enrich cultural life in smaller towns. The project activities included creating 3 educational programmes based on meetings with professionals (basket makers, blacksmiths, singers, musicians and actors), conducting 3 traveling performances in Sofia. Blagoevgrad, Sliven and Montana and one final "Festival of Roma Culture" in the quarter of Sofia.

The project had a broad societal relevance, and the target groups that were affected by its implementation are people from different minority or ethnic groups with a clear focus on Roma artists, students, entrepreneurs, school children and youth, as well as creatives working in the field of art and culture, entrepreneurs, representatives of different minority or ethnic groups, young people. The project managed to improve the awareness of arts and culture of ethnic and cultural Roma minorities, as well the situation of the Roma population in Bulgaria. The integration of minority groups was one of the results of the project activities, as special attention has been paid to the idea of involving representatives of the Roma community in the implementation of the project.

Summary of bilateral results

Prior to the start of the project activities, online meetings were conducted with Sporid representatives, with the aim of getting to know them and to prepare them thoroughly for the implementation of the project. Once the implementation organization was set up, the partners'' working visit was planned to take place at the end of 09.2023. During the visit, the experience of preserving the traditions and folklore was presented and for this purpose the selected locations were visited. Since the end of the visit there has been ongoing communication with the partners.
