Description

"Democracy!" is a magazine about politics, economy, and society, which aims to be a bridge between politics, experts, and civil society. Introducing to the general public the conversations about Bulgaria''s place in Europe and NATO, fake news, propaganda, populism, corruption, and democratic processes is exceptionally urgent. The authors analyze the given problems through the Bulgarian and EU context without compromising the essence and seriousness. The main goal at the same time is a much more accessible language. In that way, we will not compromise the importance and seriousness.

On the other hand, the broad public interest in the war in Ukraine and attempts at internal destabilization through the "other point of view" create a severe deficit in democratic values. Disinformation and propaganda and the corresponding communication with the public is a serious problem. This edition gives prominent specialists a chance to speak in detail about the issues in an accessible language while simultaneously provoking several discussions among the political class. Bulgaria has chosen its Euro-Atlantic path, and the role of the publication is to remind and strengthen it. The idea of the project is to create a community of young experts who publish a policy journal twice a year, in which aspects such as economy, misinformation, humanitarian crisis, human trafficking, and socio-ecological problems are touched upon. The project''s ultimate goal is achieved by adding to the journal a podcast that deepens each main topic. The roundtables aim to consolidate this project as a solid and stable platform for democratization. The target group is the general public, narrow specialists, and the political class.

Summary of project results

he project addresses the issues of growing disinformation in Bulgaria following the onset of the war in Ukraine. Its goal is to develop a political journal and roundtable discussions that present the problems in the context of Bulgaria and the EU in a much more accessible language, without compromising their essence and seriousness.

Two issues of the Polis journal were prepared and published, providing a platform not only for established authors and politicians but also for those at the beginning of their professional paths. The journals were publicly presented in roundtable discussions, engaging many citizens in live discussions. The journal also exists online, allowing materials from many more authors and a variety of topics to be uploaded. The first issue was dedicated to the war in Ukraine, while the second focused on the development of energy markets and energy security in Bulgaria and Europe. In the online space, over 20 podcast episodes reached thousands of end-users, contributing to the consolidation of democratic values and critical thinking.

The project initiates an impartial and expert dialogue on topics such as Bulgaria''s position in Europe and NATO, fake news, propaganda, populism, corruption, and democratic processes. Users include citizens, politicians, and experts.
