Description

A major problem facing civil society organizations (CSOs) on local level is their insufficient capacity for sustainable management. They quickly discover local problems, formulate important causes but they cannot always uphold them and bring them to a successful end due to lack of experience and funds. The latter failure discourages them and prevents them from achieving sustainability in the long run. The project aims at improving the sustainability of CSOs in Troyan Municipality and boosting their capacity to organize advocacy campaigns and raise funds for their implementation. The project will help train 15 CSOs and will further develop their capacity for sustainable management, holding advocacy campaigns and raising funds to fund them. The project will help raise the awareness of the local community about sustainable management and the benefit of holding joint advocacy initiatives for causes of broad public importance. The expected results are: • developed training materials organized in modules on: 1) sustainable development, 2) organization of an advocacy campaign, 3) raising funds • trained representatives of CSOs under the three modules • developed programme for the organization of an advocacy campaign in Troyan Municipality • online training materials promoted on the websites and in the social media and information made available to the general public.

Summary of project results

The aim of the project was to improve the sustainability of civil society organizations in the municipality of Troyan and to increase their capacity to organize advocacy campaigns and raise funds for their implementation. To achieve this, trainings of the organizations were conducted in three thematic areas related to sustainable governance, organizing an advocacy campaign, and fundraising. The trainees were presented with training materials developed under the project - full-text content, problem-oriented cases and videos, thus ensuring higher efficiency of the training process. The target NGOs had the opportunity to apply what they learned during the development of a program for organizing an advocacy campaign in the municipality of Troyan and a plan for its implementation.

The wide publicity of the project activities and the institutional support of the project partner - Troyan Municipality, largely positively influenced the attitudes of the local community to participate in various civic initiatives and seek opportunities for realizing causes of public importance.

The project contributed to increasing the sustainability of the civil sector in the municipality of Troyan, including 15 NGOs. The training topics were interlinked and focused on key aspects of the lack of capacity of civil society organizations from small settlements. The accumulated knowledge and skills, the built organizational capacity to respond to societal challenges and participation in overcoming them are the main long-term effects of the project. The increased capacity of the human capital in organizations working in public benefit is the main contribution of the project towards achievement of the objectives of the selected thematic priority of the Fund.
