Description

The NGO Club (NGOC) is a regional network of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) with a different profile but united by common goals, shared values and vision. The number of member organizations has differed over the years depending mainly on their administrative, expert and financial capacity. There is a real risk that at the end of 2020 some NGOs out of the total 24 member organizations might not renew their registration pursuant to the latest amendments to the Non-profit Legal Entities Act (at present only 7 organizations renewed their registration). In early 2019 we carried out a self-assessment aiming to analyze the overall state of the organization. Based on this self-assessment and the challenges addressed by the organization its work and organizational development, this project aims at enhancing the capacity of both the leading organization and its members and support them to achieve their goals and sustainable development. Achieving this goal will reinforce the authority of the civil sector in Targovishte District and will indirectly help member-organizations continue supporting their members and target groups. This goal will be achieved through activities to raise knowledge and skills of our members with regard to good governance of NGOs, strategic planning, the development of a new Strategic Plan of the NGO Club, work with partners (local authority, the media, businesses), work with volunteers, etc. The project will benefit the member NGOs as well as volunteers with the NGO Club.

Summary of project results

The aim of the project was to strengthen the capacity of the lead organization, Association of NGOs - Targovishte and its members, and to support them in achieving their goals and sustainable development. The project also worked to strengthen the authority of the civil sector in Targovishte district.  Despite the pandemic conditions during which the activities were implemented, the following results were achieved:

- The General Assembly of the Association of NGOs developed and adopted a Strategy for the development of the organization for the period 2021-2023.

- Two trainings were conducted for 10 member organizations, each of them with two representatives. The topics covered were on organizational development, teamwork, fundraising, and more.

- An induction training for volunteers was also held, which was attended by 20 young men and women. As a practical volunteer action, the young people planted 25 lime trees in the Botany Live Garden.

- 12 monthly e-newsletters were produced and distributed to over 500 people and via the Association''s Facebook page. A lot of positive feedback was received, and some of the material included in the newsletters was distributed on the Targovishte electronic sites.

- The project ended with the traditional Annual Meeting of the Association, which was attended by the Mayor of the city, many members, supporters, and friends.

The longest-term effect of the project will be the adopted Strategy for the next 3-year period. It includes the main and most important objectives and priorities for the development of the Association. The trainings of the members helped to build the capacity that the organizations need to successfully adapt to the environment /uncertain external environment, reduction of resources, etc./, increased their motivation and activity; some of them were motivated to re-register their organizations according to the requirements of the recent changes in the Law on Nonprofits. The project also contributed to promoting the activities of the Association to more fellow citizens and partners in other localities.
