The project aims to change the lifestyle of 130 elderly people from the village of Krepost, Haskovo Region, suffering from various diseases - more than 60 people with metabolic syndrome (making them susceptible to diabetes mellitus), 10 women with an advanced stage of osteoporosis, more than 80 people with cardiovascular diseases. By improving their health status and physical condition improved will be theirs and their families’ quality of life. The project’s goal is the successful social inclusion of people with disabilities as well as raising the public awareness about their health problems.
The planned project activities include regular meetings, training, a course of eight lectures, prophylaxis through regular health examinations, setting up a club for physical activity and rehabilitation of diabetes patients. Also envisaged is renovation and equipment of a facility where the indoor activities will be implemented. Important part of the project is dedicated to the implementation of a communication plan for dissemination of information among the general public at regional and local levels about the project and its funding programme.

The project‘s target group and direct beneficiaries will be 130 villagers with various medical problems and their families. Another target group will be the broad public through the information dissemination activities.
Summary of project results
The project was implemented in the village of Krepost, Haskovo region - a geographically disadvantaged area. The target group and direct beneficiaries were 130 people with heart disease and/or diabetes or metabolic syndrome. The aim of the project was to improve their health and slow down the progression of diseases by changing their lifestyle, diet and physical activity. Twice a week in the hall of the association performed were physical exercises in accordance with the needs and capabilities of the participants. A lecture course of eight lectures was held on various topics. A sports holiday was held at the stadium in the village of Krepost: outdoor gymnastics, badminton, volleyball, and marathon.
All 130 participants were included in one way or another (physical activity or training course). They report improved tone, increased performance and vitality. More than half of the participants have improved their body mass index, healthy living habits have been developed, six active smokers have stopped smoking, and there are now people with diabetes with lower levels of blood sugar.
