Description

The project will help develop training resources for civic education and student participation. The overall goal of the project is to promote civil education of school students from 5th to 12th grade and help develop competence among children for active citizen involvement. The specific goals are to develop training resources for civic education and participation of school students from 5th to 8th grade and from 9th to 12th grade, endorse the resources in 35th Secondary School for Foreign Languages in Sofia through civic education and initiatives of students, involve 180 students from 6th and 10th grade in civic education activities and participation in shaping the environment around them. Students are expected to boost their knowledge of local self-government and its connection to their daily life and develop skills to implement their initiatives about the environment at school.

Summary of project results

Тraining resources were developed and а pilot Program for civic education and student participation was tested as part of the curriculum during the Covid-19 lockdown in 35 Sofia school "Dobri Voynikov". Schoolchildren have participated in series of online meetings with local government representatives, where they set important topics for themselves and explored mechanisms for civic participation; pupils have developed 7 initiatives to change the school environment, 5 of which were implemented in partnership with the school management board; 504 pupils participated in decision-making process to improve the school environment through online voting. As a result of the program approbation, two electronic manuals for Civic Education and for facilitating the participation process have been developed and can be disseminated to other schools.
