Description

"Roadwiki" is an innovative initiative of the Wikipedia Community Schools Association Greece. It aims to raise awareness among local communities about the preservation and recording of their cultural heritage. This action focuses on the cultural heritage of the local community of Tegea and will take place in Athens and Tegea for four months by WCSAG, the Norwegian Institute in Athens and the University of Oslo.

Summary of the results

The "Roadwiki" initiative was a collaboration between the Wikipedia Community Schools Association Greece (WCSAG), the University of Oslo, and the Norwegian Institute at Athens (NIA). It aimed to document the tangible and intangible heritage of Tegea by raising local awareness and skills to preserve their cultural heritage. The NIA has been excavating in Tegea since the 1980s and has published many academic works on the region. The initiative involved three main activities: first, fieldwork where experts from NIA and the University of Oslo worked with local cultural agents to study heritage topics; second, a training program where local volunteers learned to catalog, research, and document heritage through digitization and writing Wikipedia articles; and third, the writing and editing of articles by the partners, with the content published online in both Greek and Norwegian. A website was created to share the articles and photos. The partners plan to meet again to discuss future collaboration.
