Summary of the results

The main goal of this bilateral initiative was to organize two training workshops focused on volunteer engagement, capacity building, and child protection case management. The first workshop, designed as a "Train the Trainer" session, was planned to take place in Athens, focusing on how to engage volunteers in various capacities and sustain their long-term interest. The second workshop was a joint training for first-line professionals and volunteers in Lesvos, covering child protection, safeguarding, and case management. However, the pandemic and the fire in Moria significantly impacted the logistics and the situation on the ground in Lesvos. The local and national lockdowns posed two major challenges: restrictions on travel and the inability to conduct live training sessions. In response, the organizations decided to hold the first "Train the Trainer" workshop in person in Athens, with only two trainers traveling from Norway. This arrangement allowed more than nine participants to attend, and the training on child protection issues was delivered through electronic means, overcoming travel obstacles. The content of both workshops was collaboratively developed by the Norwegian and Greek organizations, leveraging their respective expertise in the field. The workshops covered methodological issues, case studies, and discussions based on staff experiences, adapting to the challenging circumstances while maintaining the quality and impact of the training.
