Description

Coordination of environmental NGOs (ENGOs), especially in relation to the state institutions, is in crisis. ENGOs coordinate their activities ad-hoc and they have no common strategy to deal with issues. The objective of the project is to establish a functional network of ENGOs that will be a relevant partner to the state institutions. Its outcome is a network of 7 stable ENGOs active at the national level. The new ENGO network members will inform each other in a sufficient way and will coordinate and communicate their common position towards at least 4 important themes during the project realisation. The network will issue at least 15 media outputs. To ensure its stability, a realistic fundraising strategy will be prepared. ENGO members of the network will have a functional and stable network, a relevant partner to the state institutions, the media and the broad public. Other ENGOs can benefit from cooperation. State institutions will have a relevant partner.

Summary of project results

Coordination of environmental NGOs (ENGOs), especially in relation to the state institutions, was in crisis. ENGOs coordinated their activities ad-hoc and they had no common strategy to deal with issues. The objective of the project was to establish a functional network of ENGOs that would become a relevant partner to the state institutions. The objective was reached: a network named Green Coalition (GC) was established and communication with the relevant state organisation started. The coordinator of GC co-operated with representatives of the Ministry on Environment (MEnv) on preparation of several strategic documents. The minister of this resort named a representative of GC to a key advisory body in 2 grant programmes. Anyway, the future development in the network and its performance will be crucial for sustaining and improving its role and relevance. In order to ensure necessary capacities, the member organisation started to finance GC by their membership fees after the project was finished. As a result, the position of the project co-ordinator was sustained. The project outcome is the existence of the network with 9 NGOs active at the national level. The objective was fully reached as the plan was membership of at least 7 stable NGOs. GC had its by-laws registered. The network operates a website and FB, communicates with the media – 8 press releases were issued in relation to the themes of high importance as well as other outputs in the project period. Before presidential elections, it organised an opinion poll among the candidates and published the results. GC also organised a workshop on renewable sources of energy and training in communication for NGOs. The member organisations of the network were involved in the project directly by participation in the Borad of the GC. Other NGOs, media and the broad public benefited from better information flow in environmental matters and NGOs also from participation of GC in advisory bodies of MEnv.
