Description

The project Rainbow Education is reacting to the actual need of increasing information and education of professional workers in school and out-of-school facilities, which is also our primary project goal (fulfilled by realization of 10 educational workshops). Workshops “Homophobia at schools”, “Suggestions and recommendations for work with LGBT youth” and “Specifics of work with LGBT clients” will increase the amount of information of our focus group in the problematic of homophobia/biphobia/transphobia, of prevention, identification and solution of homophobia/biphobia/transphobia in schools, scholastic groups, school and out-of-school environments, affirmative work with LGBT clients and skills for the support of LGBT youth. 2 workshops called “Get to know your rights” will increase the knowledge of LGBTI community in the field of law enforcement, possible solutions for crisis situations, rights and obligations.

Summary of project results

The results of our project were achieved in the highest possible measure. Although, we had to extend the duration of the project, and also change the location of realization for some of our workshops, finally they were all concluded as planned. To give a global picture of the achievements of the workshops we realized, we selected two examples: two 3 hours long workshops for students of the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Philosophy, Comenius University in Bratislava, called “Homophobia in the school collectives” were bound together; the group were created by the same participants. First workshop offered the primary contact with the topic, contact with self-attitudes and basic data from the psychological point of view, the explanation of the terminology. The historical excursion to the theme of homosexuality, homosexuality as illness, psychological theories about homosexuality. We had focused on the identification of homophobia, from the position of the future psychologists, who will work with youth and school collectives, of its prevention and solution of situations of homophobic bullying. Space for discussion had been included to both workshops, as well as the technique of socio-drama (creating and playing of life stories). All the other workshops had been concluded the similar way. Therefore, the inclusion of the focus groups to our project had been the absolute key. As you can learn from all of our interim reports, in all of the 10 educational workshops, we had used the forms of learning by experience, various practical exercises and participation. From the begging of our educational practice in Q-centrum, we are trying to focused on a 50:50 approach (50percent on the professional theory and 50percent on the practice) The impact of the project is priceless, especially in the topic of LGBTI, where the individual and face-to-face work with small collectives, shows itself as one of the best tools to combat the stereotypes and prejudices against LGBTI people. The cooperation with our donor organization NOS-OSF had been more than pleasurable, despite the great amount of administrative musts; we had always to agree in a professional and human level. Without any doubt, NOS-OSF had been our most flexible and communicative donor since 2009, where we had been established as a civic organization.
