Description
The main problem, to which the project reacts, is imperfect process of operability of democratic institutions and insufficient level of democratic political culture. The project includes: systematic monitoring and evaluation of the functioning of democratic institutions, research of public opinion and political culture, evaluation of performance of regulatory organs in the area of communication and media, discussion fora with citizens. Project activities include: quarterly analytical Newsletter with qualitative and quantitative assessment of the state of democracy in the areas of rule of law, legislation, human and minority rights, media and civil society, regular opinion polls on topical issues of society’s development, semi-annual analytical reports on the operation of regulatory organs dealing with communication and media, yearbook on quality of democracy in SR, public debates across the SR on topics related to development of democracy and values of open society.
Summary of project results
The project results were fully achieved thanks to the implementation of all the planned activities and outputs. All published outputs will be accessible to public through their placement on IVO web-site and links to other resources where they were put. They will serve to all interested persons over a longer period of time. The methodological basis of the project has a high level of sustainability and viability in the next period of time in the case of continuation of financial support for such activities. The project was needed in order to provide wider public in Slovakia by research and analytical data about the state and the main trends of development of democracy in the country. The project helped to deepen the public debate on this topic in the media, as well as through discussions with citizens in various cities of Slovakia. Project outcomes (published analyzes, conducted opinion polls, discussion fora) acted towards increasing the sensitivity of society and its various actors to practical application of principles and norms of democracy. These outputs have a high degree of usability for the implementation of concrete measures in the area of activity of democratic institutions. Project activities have affected the nature of public debate about democracy and its different aspects at both national and local levels. Target groups were involved through the addressing outreach as far as information on the progress of the project was concerned as well as familiarity with the project outcomes and participation in discussion fora. Implementation of the project contributed to strengthening the ties with selected non-governmental organizations, academic institutions and groups of active citizens at the local level. Cooperation with donor can be evaluated as correct, punctual and supportive.
