Description

Overpriced orders are well-known problem in Slovakia. We have strayed so far that corruption and defrauding public funds are the standard, which the society has surrendered to. Government conviction is that nothing can be done. Experience has shown that even in revealed cases, writing about corruption does not change the situation at all. The issue should be addressed consistently and systematically, up to the point of criminal charges and lawsuits. The project aims to unveil cases of public corruption and the misuse of public funds and put pressure on the responsible authorities through the administration of criminal information. Beginning with the investigative and analytical work, information will be evaluated by legal analyses and evaluation of the administrative and court procedures and results. We will make information about this topic available via web site, press conferences, public forums, and mailed letters.

Summary of project results

The aim of the project was to supervise and check public funds spending at the regional level, to provide citizens with professional help in the fight against clientelism and corruption, education and general information in this area. We hoped that the project would help affect the perception children and youth have about corruption, as a non-orthodox way of handling business matters. There is more pressure on public institutions when it comes to handling national and European funding and it is important to realise that the burden of control lies also on journalists and citizens. The project created a space for communication and building of relationships between the third sector and government authorities with suggestions for improving the functioning of the state administration. It also brought benefits for children, young people and adults who usually perceive corruption passively, as a common phenomenon at all levels. Five public debates were held in partnership with Polis Foundation, Žilina, three discussions with Stanica Záriečie. Partner – Polis Foundation – provided the venue and equipment for our debates. He also managed live streaming of debates which is archived on our website and also on the wesite of Polis. Common debates opened up space for future cooperation on topics like regional culture and politics, increasing civic activism and awareness of our citizens.
