Description

The project implementation is supposed to contribute to the solution of climate change in the region at local level. The objective of the project is to increase public environmental awareness in adaptation to climate change issues. It is expected that the project will create a system of environmental education focused on climate change and rainwater. The curricula focused on management of rainwater and climatic change will be modified for the school education programme. The project's goals will be reached by newly created curricula and conducting lesson according to them. Students from different classes of the school will be involved in the project, and the teaching methods ensure that this target group will influence the attitude of their parents and siblings outside educational institution and thereby achieve a synergic effect.

Summary of project results

By implementing the project we wanted to make a contribution to solving climatic changes in our region at our local level. When it comes to the environmental issues, generally speaking, young people are quite ignorant, which we were aware of. We also felt the curriculum does not provide enough information about the causes of climatic changes and possibilities of their prevention. There are quite frequent negative consequences of either floods or droughts in our region, and therefore we decided to realise the project which would help us to deal with the issue. The objectives of the project were achieved. The curriculum, which is used at our educational process, has been elaborated. The project helped us to provide the containers for rain harvest and using the water. The result is that we both do not strain the environment by the draining water and we save drinking water. Moreover, the school premises were revitalised by planting trees. The project has become a part of the long term strategy of the school devoted to the protecting the environment and climatic changes, which concentrates on the students at educational process and also in practice. A lot of activities were carried out in order to achieve the planned results. To begin with, we organised two informative workshops for public. The first one was focused on the significance of green vegetation and the need of its protection. The second one targeted the water management. Then, within the project two conferences were organised, the opening one and the closing one. The speakers were the experts, who are playing an active role in solving the environmental issues. As for the activities which guaranteed adaptive steps, the rain harvest containers were fixed and trees, grass, bushes and flowers were planted. Finally, two students and a teacher took a part in a study stay in the capital of Norway – Oslo.Due to the implementation of the main activities we were able to achieve these results:82% of the school area are detached from the sewerage system and are attached to the rain harvest containers; making the school premises prettier and healthier by planting 12 trees and several types of herbaceous plants and bushes;better conditions for increasing knowledge and education; regarding climate changes by elaborating four curriculum packets from five different subjects; higher awareness of general public (around 600 people) about the flood and draught prevention by way of two workshops and two conferences;knowledge about flood control activities and planning blue-green towns in Norway.
