Description

Consumer trends toward low-alcohol drinks force the producers to seek alternatives for higher alcohol drinks. Project aims to merge technological and analytical knowledge of University of Nova Gorica (UNG) with fruit processing skills of Bioforsk Ullensvang in order to optimise traditional cider making by implementation of alternative technologies. Norwegians owns necessary equipment, but lack technological skills, whereas Slovenians have winemaking but not apple processing experiences. New knowledge in low-alcohol drinks production introduced to both countries is expected. The other objective of the project is a possibility to send teachers from UNG to University of Stavanger (UiS) to be able to execute, together with Norwegian teachers, five courses in the 2nd semester of European Master in Migration and Intercultural Relations (EMMIR). After the end of the semester Norwegian teachers will come to Slovenia for evaluation and further development of the courses. The benefit groups are students who enrol to EMIR, other students and teaching staff from UiS and UNG. The partnership will achieve a successful 2nd semester of EMMIR at the UiS in 2015 and 2016.

Summary of project results

The project was intended to (1) implement the mobility for 7 teachers who are contributing to European Master in Migration and Intercultural relations and (2) to improve traditional cider production in Hardanger. Main objective: (1) sending 6 teachers to Norway and 1 Norwegian teacher to Slovenia in order to teach, strengthen the cooperation and improve the quality of the teaching process considering the current migration situation in Europe, (2) sending 3 wine researchers to Norway in order to teach and research, improve and exchange the knowledge in field of low alcohol drinks. The impact: introducing new knowledge and experiences in the program and research/technological field. The outcome: improved and updated content of the study program/traditional cider production technologies and a tighter cooperation between Universities and NIBIO. Outcomes have been reached as all the teachers successfully delivered their lectures and wine experts delivered their research visits and performed experiments. The main benefit: students/researchers/producers recognised the value of the program/technology improvements, which will be running also in the future.

Summary of bilateral results

The donor PPs offered help from International/Administration offices, meetings with the staff, cider producers, classrooms, laboratories, lab material, technological and IT support, the use of the library, workplace. The partnership has been successful in Joint Master and Erasmus Mundus applications and of the study programs for almost 15 years and in on going research project regarding improvement of Hardanger cider (financed by Hardanger Cider Association). Working together in the developing and sustaining of the study program/cider production technologies and improving program content on regular basics has been our successful trademark. Bilateral relations have been strengthened on the level of understanding the current migration situation in Europe and staying in touch with contemporary migration issues, understanding the microbiology/chemistry/technology behind the traditional cidermaking in Hardanger. Partnership is involved in the dissemination of knowledge/experiences for migration and winemaking/food technology students and teachers as well as for cider producers in both countries and other stakeholders in migration process.
