The objective of the project is to raise awareness and sensitize Roma victims of domestic violence regarding their rights and available protection means by organizing 12 informative local seminars and increasing the number of protection orders requested by female Roma victims of domestic violence in the regions Bucharest-Ilfov and South Muntenia. The project aims at disseminating information materials and broadcasting a video that intends to describe in detail the procedure for requesting, processing, granting and enforcement of the protection order. The target group is represented by 540 persons out of which: 300 women, victims or potential victims of domestic violence of Roma origin and 240 local stakeholders and decision makers of Roma communities.

Summary of project results

The project arose from the needs identified by the promoter during the implementation of previous projects aiming at increasing the level of employment by optimizing the chances of integration of the victims of domestic violence into the labour market. Thus, it was noticed that a significant number of women who benefited from one or more of the active measures within the three projects were victims of physical, verbal, psychological, sexual or economic violence perpetrated by partner or husband. Thus, the project aimed to increase the level of knowledge among Roma women on the new rights conferred by recent legislative changes in the field of the fight against domestic violence, especially the benefits presented by the introduction of the protection order. Thus, the second objective of the project was increasing the number of protection orders requested by Roma women victims of domestic violence and issued in the Bucharest-Ilfov and South-Muntenia regions. Within the framework of the project, 12 awareness raising seminars were organized at the level of the Roma communities in Bucharest, Buftea, Pantelimon, Popeşti Leordeni, Călăraşi, Giurgiu, Piteşti, Câmpulung, Ploieşti, Slobozia, Alexandria and Targoviste. Futher, a video illustrating the life stories of female victims of domestic violence was produced and disseminated. Moreover, app. 1,000 questionnaires were applied among Roma women in the Bucharest-Ilfov and South-Muntenia regions and a study was developed reflecting the Roma population's awareness of the domestic violence legislation in force in Romania. During the 12 months of the project, 300 Roma women, victims or potential victims of domestic violence and 248 representatives of local stakeholders and decision-makers from Roma communities in the Bucharest-Ilfov and South -Muntenia regions were informed and sensitized. The data included in the final project report indicates that the duration for the issuing by the court of a protection order for the victims of domestic violence was reduced by 7 days in 2015 compared to 2014. Further, in what concerns the number of protection orders issued in the two implementation areas of the project, Bucharest-Ilfov and South Muntenia, it was noticed that the number of orders issued raised in 2015, compared to 2014 from 250 to 262.
