Description

The objectives of the project are promoting a better understanding of cultural diversity and strengthening intercultural dialogue through the promotion of Romanian cultural identity. The project will present art workshops, traditions and crafts for the Icelandic community in the city of Akureyri. It will strengthen bilateral relations between Romanian cultural operators and cultural operators in Iceland by carrying out project activities in Akureyri Public School. This will also increase the international mobility of Romanian craftsmen and their works. The donor partner, the School of Akureyri, will help organizing and developing the Romanian cultural identity event.

Summary of project results

This project aimed at the awareness of cultural diversity and to strengthen the intercultural dialogue between the two countries. Specific objectives of the project were: strengthening the bilateral relations between Romanian cultural operators and those from Iceland, carrying out the project within the Akureyri Public School; increasing international mobility for the Romanian craftsmen and their works of art; developing a better understanding of cultural diversity and strengthening the intercultural dialogue through the promotion of the Romanian cultural identity, using art workshops, traditions and crafts for the Icelandic community in Akureyri. The project results were the following: increasing the mobility of international artists and their works – by organising a delegation for the Romanian folk artists, participating in exhibitions with traditional objects / photos and international events through guiding handcrafting workshop led by the three craftsmen, involving the school students of the project partner school. All these actions are intended to promote the Romanian craftsmen and the traditional objects made by them at an international level; promoting education through art and culture to a wider audience by daily participation of 90 students from Akureyri to the exhibitions and handcrafting workshops organized during the project, a DVD presentation with a documentary about the 3 Romanian craftsmen, a presentation that was multiplied and distributed in a total of 300 copies to the participants of the workshops and performing a minimum of 35 traditional art works within the project (traditional wood carvings and dolls). The main deliverables within the project were: web page within the site www.culturabratianu.ro, development of promotional materials: 30 posters, 300 leaflets, making a documentary film with the three craftsmen, multiplying and distributing the documentary film in 300 DVD copies, performing 35 works of traditional art (pyro gravure, wood carving and handcrafts), 18 photos of works belonging to the three craftsmen and also photographs from the Arges and Muscel area for the exhibition organized at the public school in Akureyri. Project’s activities had particular relevance to the target groups - students of the public school in Akureyri and the local community that led to the awareness of cultural patrimony and identity of a people in a different geographical space, where everything tends towards globalization.

Project’s activities had particular relevance to the target groups - students of the public school in Akureyri and the local community that led to the awareness of cultural patrimony and identity of a people in a different geographical space, where everything tends towards globalization. All three craft workshops carried out during the three days were assisted by an Icelandic teacher. The exhibition with photos from Arges and Muscel was organized on one of the main hallways of the school and could be admired by the entire staff of the school, pupils, parents. Informing the Akureyri Icelandic public about the project was through the Akureyri Public School website, the posters attached to the main access doors of the school, and the distribution of flyers and DVDs. The promoting of the Romanian art and tradition brought added value of traditional Romanian culture.
