Description

The Museum Bistrița - Năsăud, a defining cultural object in the county, is located in the former Habsburg barracks, built in the late 19th century. In the Museum courtyard were built a wooden church - architectural monument of the 18th century and two houses, representative for the vernacular architecture of the region. Even if the museum holds priceless collections, the inadequate method of display and the courtyard facades have a negative impact on the number of visiting tourists. The project aims to make a better use of the existing cultural heritage, to strengthen the image of the museum as a milestone in cultural heritage and tourism, to regenerate the image of the museum by using innovative solutions inspired by international experience. The approach of the project will interconnect rural and urban space by protecting and preserving the cultural heritage of rural and urban areas. The target groups of the project consist of the local community, the national and international tourists, the experts in cultural and historical heritage.

Summary of project results

The museum Bistrita Nasaud has priceless collections which were presented to the public in an inappropriate and outdated manner. The museum appearance and courtyard had a negative impact on the number of visitors. Therefore the objective was to regenerate and increase the attractiveness of the museum by innovative solutions. The implementation of the project resulted in new solutions for furnishing and exposure of the museums' heritage to the general public. The museum now includes multifunctional premises endowed with proper equipment for conferences, presentations, book releases, community events, providing an environment to foster and catalyze the interaction between the locals, tourists etc. The department of Natural Sciences is now regenerated with a new scenography for exposing the museum's heritage. During project implementation 425 heritage goods and documents were also digitized.
