Description

Children with developmental disorders require a highly structured and well controlled environment; a rigorous program and predictable routines, preferably with one-to-one interaction. It is important to create a community with a professional team to provide both the best suited rehabilitation services for children with special needs, as well as intensive programmes of information and awareness among parents and among professionals in the education and health system. This project seeks to ensure the social inclusion of children up to the age of 7 years, of which 20% will of Roma origin through the establishment of a Centre for early education and care for children with disabilities, aged between 0-7. The centre will provide a solution for children and their families both in the short-term and the long-term. Specifically, until school age, children can remain in the centre where they will receive early education services and recovery services which allows their parents to stay in employment. The target group consists of the 1231 children with disabilities from Vrancea County and their families, more specifically, those who have children aged between 0-7. Direct beneficiaries of the project are 30 children with disabilities from Vrancea County and their families (6 of Roma origin).

Summary of project results

The Vrancea County Council, in partnership with Andrada’s Hope Association opened a center for children with disabilities through a grant of 207.777 euros. The center provides early education and recovery services to 30 children aged 0 to 7 years old, out of which 5 are Roma. The 598 sq. m space in which center operates underwent electrical installation review and the installation of an external elevator. The center is equipped with air conditioning, furniture, household appliances and office equipment, circulating assets, for its operation in optimal conditions. The center faunctions as a kindergarten with a prolonged schedule, between 8 and 5 pm. Most of the time, in what concerns children with disabilities, the mother is the one who assumes the role of child care at the expense of her professional life. The long-term kindergarten will give parents a chance to resume their professional life. The promoter also held 4 workshops in order to raise awareness on the needs of children and families of children with disabilities, and on the opportunities that the center offers in what concerns the reintegration on the labor market of mothers. The promoter had deviations from the planning of activities due to the necessity of changing the budget, compared to the initial estimation, as a result of the elaboration of the general worksheet.
