Description

The project aims to develop a local and regional network of social services, in order to reduce the inequalities and discrimination and to increase the level of social inclusion of institutionalized children from Cluj county and children of Roma nationality from Salaj county. Moreover, it aims to increase the level of awareness and involvement of 350 persons from local authorities and civil society, by implementing an information and awareness-raising campaign and to encourage them to play an active role in the social inclusion of children belonging to vulnerable groups. In addition, an intervention plan will be developed and tested, including an innovative working methodology, and 50 specialists will be trained, in order to be able to implement the innovative working methods. The intervention plan will be implemented with the help of at least 50 volunteers: adult persons and ”soul families” (community members). At least 100 children will benefit by the project activities.

Summary of project results

According to data from DGASPC Cluj, project partner, in Cluj County there were 367 children in the residential system, out of which 45% Roma. Roma children at risk were also living in Dragu village (Salaj County).The problem quality of life of institutionalised children and discrimination was of top importance among project partners, being aware that partnership between various stakeholders had to be consolidated. The project aimed to develop a local and regional network of social services that would contribute to reducing inequality and discrimination and increasing the degree of social inclusion of children of minorities and disadvantaged groups. A network of specialists working in social services has been developed - "Good deeds factory". 50 specialists, out of which 30 from DGASPCs and 20 from network members have been trained on how to approach discrimination and social exclusion. 102 children, out of which 76 Roma, have benefited from a new methodology and intervention plan that evaluated their situation and proposed measures to fight social exclusion of institutionalised or Roma children from Cluj and Salaj Counties. As a result of project activities, the awareness degree of the community regarding finding solutions to discrimination and social exclusion has increased, institutionalised and Roma children have received improved services as a consequence of implementation of the innovative methodology and specialists from social inclusion have improved their collaboration mechanisms.
