Description

Children with special needs are among the most vulnerable children in Romania. They often leave school lacking the required qualifications, despite the fact that proper and consistent inclusive education can provide solid progress for the most of them. The main objective of the project is the social inclusion of children with special needs through the provision of educational integrated services, including innovative, sensorial stimulation, social behaviour and informal education, and the general improvement of these children's life quality. Special poly-sensorial (SNOEZELEN) stimulation chambers in 8 special schools in the County Council of Cluj County will provide the a pleasant learning environment for the 944 children with special needs (the main target group). Moreover, the project will provide basic education on health and personal hygiene, as well as leisure activities for the children.

Summary of project results

The project aimed to increase the inclusion level of special needs children by implementing integrated services, such as educational, sensorial stimulation, social behavior and informal education. 1241 children from 9 special needs schools and kindergartens from Cluj County were a part of project activities, which had as a main objective to raise the quality of their lives and to help improving their abilities and skills. The Project Promoter purchased the necessary equipment to build 9 sensory rooms (Snoezelen Multi-Sensory Environments) in these institutions, so that all the children could benefit from this kind of special therapy. This types of rooms are relaxing spaces that help reduce agitation and anxiety, but they can also engage and delight the user, stimulate reactions and encourage communication. 481 specialists who are working directly with the children in the sensory rooms were trained in order to handle correctly all the equipment. After prolonging the project, by participating at Plus 2 call, the Project Promoter increased the number of the children, beneficiaries of the sensory rooms, from 944 to 1241 and also purchased equipment for a new special needs school, raising the number of beneficiary institution from 8 (initially number) to 9. The Project Promoter purchased 4 Solisten instruments to be used for the beneficiaries of 4 schools included in the project, for Tomatis therapy. During the project implementation period, the partner held a workshops for all the children and they taught them the basic rules of health education and they also distributed them some hygienic articles. About 820 children took part to the both trips organized outside Cluj Napoca and they went out to see a movie in the City Mall. The Project Promoter organized for all of them Christmas parties where the children received Christmas gifts (sweets, a backpack, a sweatshirt).
