Description

The Roma community Dalas is located in the Romanian village of Veseus. Dalas-Veseus has a population of 989 people, 90% of which are Roma. The main objective of the project is to improve access to education for 129 Roma children at risk through the creation of a daily care centre. Today, children and young people are left without support for solving the issues they face at school, which often leads to early school dropout linked also to their poor standard of living. The Daily Care Centre "Amicii" and its activities will assure free access to formal and non-formal education, educational training for Roma children, support and counseling for parents and other community members at risk. The project will improve the social status of Roma children in order to be better integrated at school, and reduce the likelihood of discrimination and social exclusion. The projects expects 129 children, 60 parents and 30 professionals and volunteers to benefit from the activities of the project.

Summary of project results

The aim of the project: Activities of the project improve the access to education for Roma children from the neighborhood called Dallas situated in the village of Veseus, belonging to Jidvei ,country of Alba that are of risk of early school dropout, through active involvement of their parents and social services and this new founded daily care centre called ~Little friends~; increase the level of education of children at risk of early school dropout; improve and to develop the civic qualities of people for inclusion in a modern and flexible labor market by providing them a free access to education and thus reducing early school dropout. The objectives of the project: Building a Daily care centre that provide formal an non-formal education services, educational support for 188 children, 50 young people and 60 parents in which are 45 women from Veseus, county of Alba, avoid early school dropout by offering some chances to attend compulsory education for 188 Rroma children (103 of them girls) from Veseus, village of Jidvei, by creating some personal development ,orientation and guidance services according to their specific needs; Increase the school graduation with 70% and to reduce the early school dropout with 50% during the project implementation among school-age Rroma children from Veseus community. Long-term quantitative results: At least 60 preschool children benefit from the activities of this Daily care center (Little friends) each year. At least 128 children and 50 young pupils benefit from complementary services given by the daily care center (educational counselling, school and professional orientation). The school dropout rate, after this project will be over, decrease with at least 10% each year from the previous years. At least of 70% of beneficiaries acquire properly skills and behaviors for at least a problem they had before taking part in this project.30% from beneficiaries increase in intent towards school, in training children, young people and parents that are the beneficiaries of this counselling program. 80% increase level of awareness of educational need of Rroma families and Rroma community trough participating of a number of 60 adults, parents in parental training courses. The training courses for professionals and volunteers include themes and inclusive educational courses which will support and find measures to prevent and to reduce the factors and causes of school dropout among school age for Rroma children.
