Summary of project results

The project team contacted and established strong relationships with the local community, with local authorities - Luna Mayor and deputy mayor, city council, representatives of the Roma community (community facilitator, mediator), school representatives (director of the local school, teachers), and members of local community (parents, people in the community). One of the main objectives of the project was to enhance the active citizenship on medium and long term, by creating a Local Initiative Group - Together for our community - consisting of community representatives and local institutions; the Romanian Government Strategy for Roma Inclusion for 2012 -2020 recognizes the Local Initiative Group as a base for the cooperation at a local level. . In this respect, through a process of community facilitation, were identified future members of the initiative group. The meetings that followed had as purpose to develop an action plan on short and medium term, which was approved by local authorities. The work plan aimed at developing the community with a focus on Roma community, thus contributing to identifying measures that help reducing social disparities between Roma and non-Roma people in the Luna village. Within the educational objective of the project, 40 kindergarten children were monitored daily by the school mediator and they were offered school supplies, clothes and food. An adapted curriculum was developed so that the needs of these children would be met. Two monthly intercultural activities in early childhood activities were introduced. In terms of organisational development, the project helped the Association for Promoting the Social Inclusion to strengthen its internal procedures and also address the training needs of its employees.
