Description

The patients with tuberculosis (TB) and with multi drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR TB) are socially excluded and have a lot of difficulties to reintegrate from the professional point of view after healing. The main objective of the project is to reduce the social exclusion of the patients with TB. The project intends to create a pattern of good practice in order to help the patients with TB and MDR TB in terms of social and professional reintegration. Another objective of the project is to increase the institutional capacity of ASPTMR, Oradea branch. We will create support groups and therapy groups for patients, we will encourage people not to stigmatize patients with TB and we will encourage the employers to reemploy the healed patients. The beneficiaries will be the patients with TB from the Bihor County and their families.

Summary of project results

Through this project, the issue of socio-professional reintegration of patients with tuberculosis was locally addressed for the first time. The project managed to prove that, with proper support, patients with tuberculosis can achieve socio-professional reintegration. The main objective of the project – creation of a functional model aiming at socio-professional integration of patients with tuberculosis – was entirely achieved. The 50 beneficiaries that were directly involved in the project have acquired the skills needed to cope with stigma, this being the main achievement of the project. Also, awareness materials were published and citizens of Oradea were made aware of the problems that the patients with tuberculosis face and social inclusion was encouraged through a street campaign organised in the project. A good visibility was also achieved by an article published on the first page in a regional newspaper. Through this small grant project, the organizational capacity development was aimed (specific measures were implemented, such as web page development and implementation of the strategic plan). In order to support and multiply the results, a partnership agreement with the Public Health Department was concluded. Also, services provided by other institutions were identified, in order to support the reintegration of patients after healing. Some of the beneficiaries have become volunteers of the association.
