Description

Association Pro Refugiu and its partners in the project PRO HEALTH – Improve medical services for victims of human trafficking, will approach the problem of limited delivery and access to medical services for the victims of human trafficking. Objectives: improvement of the way in which services/medical assistance is provided to victims by healthcare professionals; effective provision of medical services for victims; improve collaboration, communication among professionals. Direct beneficiaries: at least 20 Romanian healthcare professionals will benefit from the trainings; at least 30 victims (internal and cross border trafficking) will benefit from medical assistance. Main results: professional level improved for the healthcare specialists in identifying and assistance of victims through the blended learning training system; improvement of collaboration among professionals using online platform E-Health; development of a national network of healthcare professionals able to provide quality services to the victims.

Summary of project results

The project was developed in the context of multiple factors that negatively influence human trafficking victims’ access to medical counselling and assistance. Among these factors are: the lack of medical units and healthcare professionals specialized in delivering assistance with a victim cantered approach, insufficient dialogue between medical units, NGOs and other institutions with competences in the fight against human trafficking and assistance for victims (as National Agency against Trafficking of Persons, General Directorates for Social Assistance and Child Protection). 21 healthcare professionals were trained to develop a victim centred approach. Also the E-Health platform - http://e-health.prorefugiu.org/en/home/ was developed to facilitate information and communication between medical staff involved in providing assistance for the victims of trafficking. 11 protocols with medical units were concluded, the medical units becoming part of a national network. 33 victims received medical counselling and assistance, most common forms of trafficking identified being sexual and labour exploitation. A good practice guide on medical services was elaborated and disseminated. A conference, attended by 47 participants from organisations and institutions with active role in the fight against human trafficking and assistance for victims, was organised.
