Description

The reflection of the lack of interest on the cultural and social development cause a lack of leisure alternatives, that is the reason why, the citizens, especially the youth, are facing different problems, like discrimination, underdeveloped communication skills, inactivity, high consumption of alcohol, immigration etc. In this context, the project "Tîrgu Frumos Volunteer Center" is encouraging active citizenship and the participation in community life. The project will contribute to the personal development of at least 120 young people, the inclusion of at least 50 Roma, unemployed and/or disabled youth, the mobilization and training in volunteering of 200 volunteers of all ages and from all social groups, the development of project management skills among 30 active volunteers, the collaboration with at least 10 local partners (schools, institutions, authorities) and at least 1,000 people informed about the benefits of volunteering. The project will benefit young people from urban and rural areas, the Roma community, teachers and other stakeholders in education, young people with special needs, institutions and local authorities and citizens.

Summary of project results

The Volunteering Centre of Targu Frumos had an important impact on the development of Targu Frumos locality and the neighbouring rural areas. During the 13 months of implementation, 2 volunteer centres were created in two public institutions, more than 120 active volunteers were trained and over 370 events (meetings, seminars, actions, activities, performances, programmes, projects), which involved over 6,000 beneficiaries (45% of them from rural areas), were organised. The centres focused on different target groups and helped the project to develop stronger partnerships with different public institutions, which contributed to the cultural development of the community, to the promotion of active citizenship and to the inclusion of more beneficiaries from vulnerable groups. At the same time, it developed the capacity of the organisation. After the end of the project, in the volunteering centres there are more than 20 active volunteers who devote to volunteer activities at least 3 hours a day and the number of those wishing to become volunteers is growing. The project increased the work quality of volunteers, most active volunteers have acquired managerial skills, developed their sense of initiative, are more responsible and prepared to become youth workers in order to contribute to the development of the organisation and the community. In the last 3 months of the project, the promoter developed two training camps for the most active volunteers of the Volunteering Centre of Targu Frumos. 34 young people developed their entrepreneurial skills, created 5 follow-up projects and the organisation's strategy for the next 5 years. Also, the Volunteering Centre of Targu Frumos has contributed to the development of two international projects. After the end of this project they were able to share their work with 45 young people from 9 countries. Based on their strategy, for the coming years, one of their priorities will be the actions and projects dedicated to environmental protection. The Volunteering Centre of Targu Frumos led to diversification of local inter-institutional partnerships. In the framework of the project, volunteering activities with all schools from Targu Frumos, with organisations and institutions from rural areas and with cultural institutions and local authorities were organised.
