Description

In Romania, lack of youth participation to national legislation, lack of information and confidence in public institutions, lack of advance of advancement of the benefits of civic participation, in educational system cause demotivation for the young Romanian to engage in society. The project aims to encourage youth involvement in community life and support their initiatives that promote active citizenship by respecting and applying democratic values. Through the project, the young people will implement their own project ideas in the community, becoming active citizens. A survey will be carried out as part of the project to find the good practice examples and methods referring to civic participation. We will produce a report that will present the reasons why young people do not get involved in the community. The main beneficiaries of the project will be young people aged 18-30 years from 6 Romanian communities.

Summary of project results

The aim of the project was to encourage youth involvement in community life and to support their initiatives that promote active citizenship through compliance and enforcement of democratic values. The impact of the project was the changes that young people managed to implement and had the opportunity to bring in the community through their mini-projects. The most important results were: training 30 young people to apply questionnaires and prepare a research report; training 60 young people about project management. Following the training the youth, 11 mini-projects were implemented locally. In the project, APD achieved a series of output materials that supported the beneficiaries and other young people generally, like: research report on the level of involvement of young people in Romania, "Involvement for all" Guide, 9 numbers of the newspaper "Involvement in community", "Uninvolved" video material, other informative and practice materials made in the mini-projects. The beneficiaries of the project were students. The greatest benefit of this project is that it has managed to give young people the courage to speak in public, to address public administration, to develop and support information sessions for a large audience, to develop their own information materials and to actively start implementing changes at local level. A great acknowledgement of the project was when one of the students was awarded the prize "Citizen with magic powers", for the mini-project "Better transportation for the citizens in Pleasa village". For years, citizens of Pleasa were deprived of proper transportation: the mini-buses were few, their programme was ending at 18.00 and on holidays the mini-buses were not working. In the summer of 2015, student Georgiana Marcu, with the help of Pro Democracy Association, discussed with over 200 families in order to find out which were the problems related to transportation. It resulted in a list of complaints. Today, the mini-buses work until 22.30 and the waiting time is much smaller, due to Georgiana's actions.
