Summary of project results

In Romania, there is a large population in rural area which is disadvantaged, lacking material resources and access to social and educational services. In the same time, there is a large population in urban areas disposing of material goods due to their good level of living. The project increased the access to school resources for poor children in rural areas through the creation of a programme for collecting and redistributing clothes and school supplies donated by children and adults from urban areas. The project tested this kind of programme and proved its positive impact, its reduced costs and its sustainability. Project's objectives were achieved under three main forms: - Clothes and school supplies were re-distributed from people that no longer needed them to people in need. It proved the possibility of mobilizing mutual help between advantaged and disadvantaged people. - 30 volunteers were involved in the process of collecting and redistributing the goods and in the elaboration of printed and video materials for the promotion of similar actions across the country. - Promotional materials were distributed among 300 local institutions in order to develop partnerships, resulting in 30 partnerships established. Corona organised 5 main activities in Iasi County, North-East of Romania, each one with its specific results: - Involving 20 schools from urban and rural areas as partners and recruiting 30 volunteers. - Installing 10 collecting recipients in schools and 15 others in public institutions and companies. - Collecting 6 tons of goods and redistributing them to 607 poor children from 10 rural schools. - Organizing a summer camp with the volunteers and elaborating promotional materials for multiplying the project results, distributed among 300 potential multipliers. - 30 partnerships established between local institutions/organisations in order to multiply the action. At the end of the project, 607 children coming from poor families but having good results at school have received 6 tons of clothes and supplies collected in Iasi Municipality. 30 volunteers, 20 schools, 10 local authorities and 15 institutions/companies and NGOs were involved in the donation, collection and distribution processes. The project assessment revealed that 75% of the beneficiaries were satisfied and very satisfied with the content of the gifts received (10 kg packages with second hand clothes and school supplies for each).
