Summary of project results

Prior to starting the project, the authorities of Sztum conducted analysis on death causes, which indicated high mortality rate (MR) of cancer in the following organs: respiratory system, prostate, breast, skin, female reproductive system and intestine. It was decided to plan and implement activities aiming at reduction of MR under one single project, which was granted assistance from PL13. First part of this project was the complex screening program including such examinations as CAT scan, colonoscopy, mammography and USG. (outcome: 5.907 actually examined people vs 5700 in project assumptions). The second part was of informative character on the role of lifestyle in healthy being i.e. physical activity; smoking tobacco and proper digestion. Regarding this, lectures, workshops and events were organised (outcome: 6315 participants vs 6300 in project assumptions). HPV vaccines were also provided as complementary action within cancer prevention (436 girls born between 2002-2006 have been vaccinated). Project has been implemented in full, when in comes to its substantial aspect, which let to diagnose 1761 patients with pathological changes such as cancer and also other illnesses which require medical treatment. Informative part of the project will bring positive impact in local community in the future. Good practices from the project will be used in the future to continue such programs financed out of the EU sources.
