Description

In Poland after 1989 there is a shortage of quality contemporary scripts and professionals experienced in making films for young audiences. Also there is a very little interest among audience in watching good quality and valuable films for children. First aim of the project is to change the general attitude to films for children and to create a need for good movies for young audience. Second aim is to develop a number of screen plays that could be considered as base for successful productions for kids.The Project consists two reviews of films for children and adolescents in 15 Polish cities, screen writing and production workshops (2 sessions in Poland, 1 in Norway, Internet work) for 13 two-person teams (screenwriter and producer in each teamt) from Poland and Norway and promotional and PR activities propagating the idea of cinema for adolescents. The workshops will produce ready for production children’s film scripts. The partner within this project is Sornorsk Filmsenter who will participate at each of the project's stages, from the beginning through implementation and completion.

Summary of project results

The project main goals were: 1. to promote good quality children movies and create and audience for European productions - especially Norwegian and Scandinavian films, 2. to start production of children movies in Poland basing on Norwegian experience on this field. F The first goal New Horizons achieved by organizing a new children film festival (Kids Film Festival) in Warsaw and 17 other cities in Poland. First edition gathered over 11 000 viewers and over 70 titles were shown. The most popular film was "Caspar and Emma - best friends" (dir. A Naes). The audience of second edition (September, 2015) was almost twice as big as during first edition which confirmed the succes. Second aim was achieved by workshops for scriptwriters and producers. Main goal of wrokshops was to develop scripts of features for children ready to be produced. Best answer if the aim was achieved was delivered in March 2016 when production of first children movie since few years started with support of Polish Film Institute. Film is based on script developed on the workshop.

Summary of bilateral results

Bilateral results were achieved on two levels. 1. Norwegian films were screened to children audience in 18 Polish cities. Their reception was excellent and they significantly helped to build the audience of the festival. Most of them found distributors in Poland. 2. During workshops 4 Norwegian scripts and 8 Polish were developed as an outcome of Polish&Norwegian working groups that shared experience and feedback during 20 workshop days. First Polish and first Norwegian projects already went into production.
