The objectives of the project are: cultural education (new skills and competences in photography and film making as a tool for inter-cultural dialogue), presentation of Polish culture in Norway and Norwegian in Poland; strenghtening the participation of youth in culture. Project shall contribute to getting know dfferent cultures, documentation (study visits, workshops) and presentation (exhibitions, film presentation) of the history of cultural changes in both countries. To show the link between two counties inthe history of Jan Garbarek and stories of Polish artists working and living in Norway will be presented. The target group of the project is local community, incl. youth. Due to complexity, the project requires constant contact of all partners. Jarocin XXI takes the role of leader – that makes effective communication and cooperation. The knowledge and competences of 3 Norwegian Partners will help to achieve the goals of the project.

Summary of project results

The project is a result of previous activities of JAROCIN XXI and people from Oslo: photographers, teacher of film art in Oslo school Marcel Kraft and film makers. The project focused on consequence of historical events (such as World War II) and state immigration policy. Due to those Norway has become a multicultural (culture of different peoples coexist, intermingle, combine). However, Poles in Norway - multiculturalism - was also present in the history of Polish cities and towns. Here we could find traces of the Jewish population and culture, numerous places associated with Germans. Polish people didn’t see that, due to the Communism regime and historical lies from that period. The project educated on multicultural history of Jarocin and other towns in Wielkopolska and Silesia and gave workshop participants (learning activities) storytelling skills in the language of film and photography. Using this mean of communication (film, photography, new technologies) it was easy to get to different age groups and overcome the language barrier. At the same time project was a part of intercultural dialogue. The project was a complex cultural education (film and photography) for Polish and Norwegian in the age of 16-60. The project was getting know, documentation (study visits, workshops) and presentation (exhibitions, film presentation) the history of cultural changes in both countries. The example of Wielkopolska and Silesia shows how towns of 3 cultures (Polish, German and Jewish) changed into monoculture ones and how Oslo changes into multicultural modern city. There were 4 workshops (with result of 4 short films, 3 exhibitions nad 4 different photo albums) and taking place in 14 locations with total 11261 audience. All the results focused on the culture of partner country presentation and through media as film and photography we managed to show the whole range of material and non-material cultural heritage. The partnership enabled better understanding of the Norway as country to work with (all the procedures of ordering services, buying things and engaging artist were done with them) and with each contact with Polish audience (workshop participants, exhibitions visitors) they gave brief introduction to the culture.

Summary of bilateral results

Projects results – exhibitions, films and albums present culture, people, and problems within both countries. The main focus in all the workshops was to understand the partner, so themes as: results of Communisms times in Poland, safety after Brevick attack in Olso, multicultural diversity within the Norwegians were clearly presented. Thanks to the bilateral funds for the first time formal partnership with well known before partners was established, that help in the project running procedures. The Polish project leader used a wide knowledge of partners in particular in the field of work with youth and immigrants (all partners work on daily bases with people of different nations). With all three partners leader built a stable relation. The mail achievement of the partnership was the great input in the theme selection for both polish and Norwegian part of the project, giving guidelines about the interests form the Norwegian side and topics of interest within their nation.
