Large numbers of participants of trainings and workshops and cooperation with media should lead to enhancing positive social perception of refugees in local communities, as well as enhancing integration activities. Participation of students of Arabic studies will help to train staff for language classes and integration activities, and will also give professional experience for the students themselves. Program of trainings prepared by lecturers from leading universities experienced in theory and practice of integration of Muslim refugees will guarantee effectiveness of activities, while cooperation with the Volunteer Centre will help to reach numerous volunteers and develop skills in building volunteer networks.

Summary of project results

The first-contact persons for immigrants and refugees in Poland are usually workers and volunteers of Polish non-governmental organisations, and representatives of local offices, uniformed and medical services. Such first good contact forms a basis and support for conflict-free adaptation of immigrants in the society. But in Poland, the main problems are low level of knowledge on social and political situation in Syria from where we expect to receive immigrants, and false image of refugee popularised by media. The aim of the project was to introduce tools helping to offer medical assistance for refugees from Syria, supplying officers of uniformed services from Małopolska i Podkarpacie regions with knowledge on Islam and actual situation in the Middle East, and preparing a group of volunteers for integration activities and cooperation with institutions. trainings were conducted for 98 young volunteers and 53 officers and functionaries on Islam, reception of refugees and cooperation between institutions and services. An Arabic module of the application VOCAL-MEDICAL was launched for conducting deepened medical surveys. Also questionnaires for medical survey in Arabic language were prepared. Not all planned activities (trainings in medical facilities, manual for doctors) were completed due to irregularities detected during monitoring regarding project implementation and use of the grant. Beneficiaries of the project were volunteers involved in the integration activities for migrants and officials and officers of the Police and Border Guard. The Project partners: Regional Volunteerism Centre was responsible for organising and conducting trainings for volunteers and recruitment of participants, the Society for Development of Piwniczna not provided any activities.
