Description

The Developmental Strategy for Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship 2020+ includes the proposal for Sports Development Programme. Its implementation should enhance access of citizens to sports, leading to improvement in physical activation of all groups of inhabitants of the region. Usefulness and effectiveness of the programme depends on an appropriate diagnosis of problems and proposals for solutions tailored to the needs of citizens, and on their engagement in implementation of the document. “Run To Run" plans activities to include citizens in the process of developing and implementing the programme. The project will use our experiences and experiences of our partners in organising mass events, diagnosing the situation in sports, participatory preparation of recommendations on sports policies. We want to help to solve the problems of low participation of citizens in developing sports policies and low level of cooperation between organisations. The process will cover 5850 persons.

Summary of project results

"The Development Strategy for Kujawsko-Pomorskie voivodeship 2020+ provided also for preparing the Sports Development Programme. It was important that the planned solutions were developed with participation of citizens, its principles supported availability of sports services for citizens, met the needs of inhabitants, thus resulting in enhancing physical activation of all groups of inhabitants of the region. The main aim of the project Citizens for Activation was to create a broad civil coalition for sports, gathering up-to-date data, cataloguing interesting initiatives from the local leaders, and initiating a broad cooperation in developing a realistic plan of activities, based on resources and specificity of the voivodeship. As a result of the project, recommendations were prepared that will form the civil contribution to the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Sports Development Programme 2020+. The regional authorities became convinced that sports policies should be created based on diagnostic and participation processes, and that not only professional sports mattered. For activists, organisers and recipients of sports in the region the project gave a sense that their voice is heard and can influence regional sports strategies. Under the project, data on sports were gathered at the level of municipalities and counties, several qualitative surveys and quantitative analyses were led. The need to change the perception of sports policies was discussed with regional authorities, sports club and association representatives, and representatives of municipal units, teachers, academics, sportsmen (in all 780 persons), and above all with inhabitants of the voivodeship through broad information and promotion activities. The series of thematic trainings for 170 persons was a response to the need of sports activists and organisers to enhance their competencies. The activities tested under the project can be used in other regions. The recipients were the inhabitants of Kujawsko-Pomorskie voivodeship. The experience of the partners (the Marshall Office, the Foundation for Physical Culture Development and the UW Social Challenges Centre) were a source of knowledge on developing sports policies and needs in popular sports in the region."
