Description

Wild Forest Bees play an important role in forest wildlife. This breed of bees makes a rich reservoir of genes. Through this project, the size of the bee population will estimated, and the beekeeping restoration programme will be created. The aim is to inform about the importance of bees' role in the ecosystem, increase the social awareness of the need to actively protect native bee breeds, stop the biological imbalance and ecosystems' degradation functions. A project group will be trained on how to individually hollow the bee logs and make the beehives in a traditional way, and on counting wild forest bee populations in the areas of Augustów, Browsk, Maskulińskie and Supraśl Forestry Managements. The objective of this is the return of traditional beekeeping and restoration of the wild bee population. The monitoring of the project from the scientist point of view will enable the identification of bee breeds inhabiting woodlands and the population of any uninhabited beehives or bee logs with home species. The beekeepers, the state forests, and society in general are expected to benefit from the project.
